Overview

Located in San Diego, Tecolote Shores Park is a large recreational grassy park that has a beach with light brown sand.  This beach is  known as Tecolote Shores Park Beach.  Tecolote Shores Park is located in the eastern portion of a large municipal aquatic park named Mission Bay Park.  While the beach in Tecolote Shores Park is generally narrow, the southern part of the beach is wider than its northern part.  Tecolote Shores Park has lifeguards from the beginning of the local academic spring break to the month of October.  It is important to note that lifeguard deployment around the beach is generally on weekends except during summers, when lifeguards are deployed around the beach daily. 

Amenities

Tecolote Shores Park also has many other amenities including restrooms, showers, picnic tables, barbecue areas, a children’s play area, a paved bike path, and fire pits.  Dogs on leash are allowed in the park before 9 am and after 6 pm between April and October.  Between November and March dogs are allowed before 9 am and after 4 pm. 

Activities

Tecolote Shores Park offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, biking, picnicking, wildlife watching, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, and boating.  The generally calm water near the beach in Tecolote Shores Park is ideal for beginner swimmers, kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders.  If you like birdwatching, you can see  many interesting varieties of shorebirds around Tecolote Shores Park depending on the time of the year.  If you are planning to fish near Tecolote Shores Park, please follow the fishing regulations that can be found on the website of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.  The Mission Bay Bike Path is located  near the beach in Tecolote Shores Park and it offers anamazing biking session.  Fire pits around the beach in Tecolote Shores Park also offer an amazing waterfront bonfir experience.  However, if you are planning to organize a bonfire in Tecolote Shores Park, please visit the city of San Diego’s official website to obtain more information about the bonfire regulations in Mission Bay Park.

Getting to Tecolote Shores Park is easy - the park is located near 1300 East Mission Bay Drive and a free parking lot is also available nearby. 

Attractions

There are many attractions near Tecolote Shores Park.  Tecolote Canyon Natural Park & Nature Center is set  within a canyon named the Tecolote Canyon.  This park has six-and-a half miles of hiking and biking trails that can be used to explore the park’s vibrant landscape.  In addition, the Tecolote Nature Center also offers interesting exhibits on the unique biodiversity of Tecolote Canyon.  SeaWorld San Diego is a theme park and aquarium that has a variety of thrilling and exciting rides.  This park also offers interesting exhibits featuring many unique marine animals including dolphins, sharks, otters, and orcas.  This park also offers excellent animal shows and presentations.  Whaley House is a historic house that was built in 1857 and has Greek Revival-style architecture – this site has been designated as California Historic Landmark and it previously served as a general store, San Diego’s second county courthouse, and the first commercial theater in Sean Diego.  Whaley House currently has interesting exhibitions that offer a unique insight into San Diego’s history and the grounds around the house have a lovely flower garden – as an interesting fact, this house has been widely known to be haunted and has been featured in many paranormal-focused television and web series including Ghost Adventures and BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural.  If you are looking for another attraction near Tecolote Shores Park, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is an important historical landmark that has many renovated buildings dating back to the Mexican and early American period of California.  This popular state park also has many interesting museums that offer a unique insight into the rich history of southern California.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Tecolote Shores Park.  Baci Ristorante is an upscale Italian restaurant that serves amazing steaks, seafood, pastas, lamb, and poultry dishes.  Cafe Coyote is a popular Mexican restaurant with a cheerful ambiance that serves great burritos, tacos, and enchiladas.  Draft (also called Draft South Mission) is a restaurant/bar that offers amazing dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner including  burgers, fries, pastas, seafood, salads, pancake, burritos, and French toasts.  The restaurant also hosts trivia nights on Tuesdays.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Tecolote Shores Park, The Menu Restaurant offers amazing breakfast dishes in generous portions including pancakes, eggs, waffles, and French toast.  In addition, the restaurant also serves excellent Mexican dishes including burritos, quesadillas, and huevos rancheros.
