Overview

Located in the eastern portion of Mission Bay Park, Playa Pacifica Park - also known as Playa 2 and Information Cove South - is a grassy recreational park that has an unnamed beach with light brown sand. This beach is also known as Playa Pacifica Park Beach. Playa Pacifica Park is situated within a cove named Leisure Lagoon. Playa Pacifica Park has lifeguards from the beginning of the local academic spring break to the month of October. It is important to note that lifeguard deployment around the beach is generally on weekends except during summers, when lifeguards are deployed around the beach daily. Playa Pacifica Park has many other amenities including picnic tables, basketball courts, restrooms, fire pits, a children’s play area, and a paved biking path. Dogs on leash are allowed in the park before 9 am and after 6 pm between April and October. Between November and March dogs are allowed before 9 am and after 4 pm.

Activities

Playa Pacifica Park offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, picnicking, fishing, basketball, wildlife watching, biking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, surf-skiing, boating, and jet-skiing. The generally calm water near the beach in Playa Pacifica Park makes it ideal for beginner swimmers, kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders. Depending on the time of the year, you can view many kinds of shorebirds around Playa Pacifica Park. If you are planning to fish in the water near Playa Pacifica Park, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations. Playa Pacifica Park is popular among families as there is a sandy play area in the center of the park which is immensely popular among children. The 12-mile long Mission Bay Bike Path passes through this park and offers a fun biking experience. Fire pits present in Playa Pacifica Park also offer an amazing waterfront bonfire session. However, if you are planning to organize a bonfire in Playa Pacifica Park, you can visit the city of San Diego’s official website to obtain more information about the bonfire regulations in Mission Bay Park.

Getting to Playa Pacifica Park is easy - the park is located near 2000 East Mission Bay Drive, where a free parking lot is also available. If you are planning to visit Playa Pacifica Park on summer weekends, we recommend visiting early as the parking lots near this beach fill up quickly during these weekends.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Playa Pacifica Park. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is an important historical landmark that has many renovated buildings dating back to the Mexican and early American periods of California. This popular state park also has many interesting museums that offer a unique insight into the rich history of southern California. The nearby streets of Garnet Avenue and Grand Avenue have a vivid collection of clothing stores, novelty shops, and restaurants. On Tuesdays, a local Farmer’s Market is held near Bayard Street between Grand Avenue and Garnet Avenue between 2 pm - 6:30 pm which offers some of the finest fresh local produce, gourmet dishes, and handicrafts in San Diego County. If you are looking for another attraction near Playa Pacifica Park, Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center has an 18-hole golf course that offers a challenging session of golf.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Playa Pacifica Park. Oceana Coastal Kitchen is an upscale restaurant that offers a pleasant oceanfront dining experience. In addition, the restaurant also offers excellent dishes prepared from locally-sourced seafood. Bay Park Fish Company offers amazing dishes prepared from fresh locally-sourced seafood. If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Playa Pacifica Park, Vallarta Express Mexican Eatery offers a variety of fantastic Mexican dishes including tacos, burritos, tortas, chimichangas, and enchiladas.
