Overview
Located in San Diego County, Ski Beach is a long beach with light brown sand. Ski Beach is located on an artificial island in Mission Bay named Vacation Isle. This beach is a part of a recreational park named Ski Beach Park – Ski Beach Park in turn is a part of a larger municipal aquatic park named Mission Bay Park. There is also a grassy recreational area adjacent to Ski Beach named Ski Beach Park.
Amenities
Ski Beach does not have lifeguards. However, the beach and the area around it have many amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, fire pits, walking paths, a children’s playground, a boat launch, and a covered picnic area. Dogs on leash are allowed on the beach before 9 am and after 6 pm between April and October. Between November and March dogs are allowed before 9 am and after 4 pm.
Activities
Ski Beach offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, picnicking, wildlife watching, fishing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, boating, paddleboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, jet-skiing, waterskiing, and surf-skiing. The generally calm water near this beach makes it ideal for beginner kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders. There is a boat launch and a water-ski area near the southern part of Ski Beach and this makes this beach popular with water-skiers and jet-skiers. It is important to note that swimming is not allowed near Ski Beach. Depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of shorebirds around Ski Beach. Fire pits around Ski Beach also offer an amazing waterfront bonfire experience. Parking
Getting to Ski Beach is easy – from Interstate 8, you need to turn towards West Mission Bay Drive. West Mission Bay Drive will lead you to Ingraham Street. The free parking lot for the beach is located along Ingraham Street and you can easily walk to Ski Beach once you park at this parking lot.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Ski Beach. Kate Sessions Park is a 79-acre recreational park that offers amazing Instagram-worthy views. This park is named in honor of the renowned local horticulturist Kate Sessions. The park has two separate sections – one section is popular with families and has walking paths, restrooms, barbecues, drinking fountains, and picnic tables. The other section of this park has coastal scrub plants that you can explore through hiking trails. This park also has a children’s playground. Ocean Front Boardwalk (also called Ocean Front Walk and Mission Beach Boardwalk) is a concrete walkway that runs along the San Diego County shoreline. This walkway passes near many exciting nightclubs, shopping stores, and restaurants and is also popular with skaters and bikers. Sunset Cliffs Park is a 68-acre oceanfront blufftop regional park that has a unique coastal sage scrub habitat. In addition, the rocky shoreline around the park has many rock formations and caves and the shoreline around the park also has many tidepools – the park offers many fun activities including swimming, surfing, tidepooling, fishing, wildlife watching, and benches and it also offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego shoreline. This popular state park also has many interesting museums that offer a unique insight into the rich history of southern California.

Coaster Saloon is an oceanfront restaurant and sports bar that serves amazing fries, barbecue platters, seafood, salads, bugers, and sandwiches.
