Overview

Located near SeaWorld San Diego, Sunset Point Park is a grassy recreational park with an unnamed beach. This beach is also known as Sunset Point Park Beach. Sunset Point Park is a part of a larger municipal aquatic park named Mission Bay Park. The sand and water in the beach in Sunset Point Park are separated by a rocky wall. 

Amenities

While Sunset Point Park does not have lifeguards, it has many other amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, fire pits, and a paved bike path. Dogs on leash are allowed in the park before 9 am and after 6 pm between April and October. Between November and March dogs are allowed before 9 am and after 4 pm. Getting to Sunset Point Park is easy - the park is located near 1656 West Mission Bay Drive, where a free parking lot is also available nearby.

Activities

Sunset Point Park offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, picnicking, biking, fishing, wildlife watching, picnicking, paddleboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, jet-skiing, and boating. The generally calm water near the beach in Sunset Point Park makes it ideal for beginner canoers, swimmers, kayakers, and paddleboarders. However, if you are planning to go into the water near Sunset Point Park, please keep in mind that the rocky wall between the sand and the water in the beach might make entering the water difficult. If you like birdwatching, you can watch many kinds of shorebirds around Sunset Point Park depending on the time of the year. If you are planning to fish in the water near Sunset Point Park, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations. Fire pits present around the beach in Sunset Point Park also offer an amazing waterfront bonfire session. However, if you are planning to organize a bonfire in Sunset Point Park, you can visit the city of San Diego’s official website to obtain more information about the bonfire regulations in Mission Bay Park.

There are many attractions near Sunset Point Park. SeaWorld San Diego is a theme park and aquarium that has a variety of thrilling and exciting rides. This park also has interesting exhibits featuring many unique marine animals including dolphins, sharks, otters, and orcas. This park also offers excellent animal shows and presentations. The Maritime Museum of San Diego has an interesting collection of renovated historical ships, including the world’s oldest active sailing ship Star of India. If you are looking for another attraction near Sunset Point Park, Belmont Park is an amusement park offering a number of exciting rides, a gaming arcade, and a restaurant.  This park also has the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, which was built in 1925 and is a part of the United States National Register of Historic Places.
