Shark attacks, while often sensationalized, are incredibly rare events. Globally, there have been over 7,000 recorded shark attacks, occurring in a variety of aquatic environments, including beaches, coral reefs, the open ocean, rivers, and even lakes. To put this into perspective, with an estimated 13.1 billion beach visits globally every year, the odds of being bitten by a shark are a staggering 1 in 180 million.
