Activities
Cala en Baster offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, picnicking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, fishing, tidepooling, boating, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, kayaking, scuba diving, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
This beach is ideal for slightly less-experienced swimmers because the water here is usually known to have gentle waves. In addition, snorkelers also visit it to explore its vibrant nearby marine biodiversity. If you plan to swim, kayak, or snorkel here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves – this beach is particularly unsafe when the eastern winds are blowing here. Please also wear water shoes while engaging in water activities, because the rocky seabed here can cause injuries.
Visitors can also explore interesting caves at the eastern part of this beach, which are used by locals for storing fishing boats. We recommend being careful while walking on the cliff top areas above Cala en Baster because people have been known to slip and fall onto the beach below, resulting in fatalities. This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it sees fewer visitors as compared to other nearby beaches.
Disability Access
Cala en Baster does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities.
Parking
Getting to Cala en Baster may be slightly difficult because of the rugged access trail – from Formentera’s port of La Savina, you need to drive on a local highway named PM-820. Once you have driven approximately six-and-a-half kilometers and left behind the villages of Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran, you will come across a bar named Bar Ses Roquetes towards your left side, along with an asphalt road. You need to drive on this asphalt road until you reach a crossroad. From this crossroad, you need to turn right towards a road named Cami de Cala en Baster and continue on the road till you reach the clifftop area above the beach. There is a small free dirt parking lot here, and you can also park in a few free street parking areas near the beach.
Once you park here, you then need to walk down along a steep and rugged access trail to reach this beach.
We recommend being careful while driving to the beach because the road to the beach can be slightly narrow. In addition, the beach also sometimes has a lot of trash.
