Platja des Pujols

Located on the northwestern coast of the island of Formentera, Platja des Pujols is a 500-meter-long crescent-shaped white sand beach.  The beach is positioned on the shores of a small coastal town, Es Pujols, and is tucked between Platja de Llevant and Punta Prima, which together provide incredible views of the vast Mediterranean Sea.  The beach is mainly divided into two sections: the northern side of the beach is quaint, and the southern end which has many hotels, restaurants, and shops.  In addition, there are several islets that lie off this stretch of coast and are known by the names Illa des Fonoll Mari, Escull des Polp, and Escull Placita.

Platja des Pujols offers many fun activities, including sunbathing, beachcombing, tidepooling, kayaking, canoeing, boating, snorkeling, windsurfing, paddleboarding, sailing, boating, and diving.  If you are planning to go into the water, the waves are usually calm as the beach is protected by several islets that lie just off the coast.  The water near the beach is shallow, making it ideal for kayaks, canoes, and small boats.  In addition, visitors can also rent kayaks, canoes, boats, bicycles, catamarans, and other adventure tours.  To make reservations, visit online.  If you enjoy surfing, Platja des Pujols is a perfect place due to its frequent windy weather.  If you enjoy tidepooling, you may spot an array of marine life, making it a fascinating spot for nature enthusiasts.  It is important to note that part of Platja des Pujols is often considered a nude beach – there is a designated clothing-optional area on the northern side of the beach.  Visitors can also enjoy nightlife on the nearby Carrer d’Espardell street, where there are many bars, nightclubs, and discotheques that stay open until late hours.  Dogs are not allowed here, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

It is important to note that the only way to reach Formentera Island is by boat.  If you are traveling from Ibiza, you can book a ferry that departs from Eivissa Harbour located at Avinguda de Santa Eularia des Riu, 17, which takes around 30 minutes to reach Formentera's port of La Savina and costs between €18 and €29.  There are multiple ferry crossings between the islands throughout the day. 

If you are traveling from Denia, there are at least seven weekly voyages.  You can book a ferry that leaves from Denia Port, located at Estacion Marítima, S/N, Alicante, and reach Formentera in around two hours for a starting price of €66.

If you are coming from Barcelona, visitors can book a ferry that departs daily from Port Barcelona, located at Moll Adossat 6, and reach Formentera in around twelve hours for a starting price of €62.

Please also note that these ferry operators offer visitors the option to transfer their cars to Formentera on a ferry with them, for which you have to pay and book in advance.  In addition, visitors can also charter their own boats from each of these locations from many other companies in the harbors in these cities.

Once you are on Formentera Island, getting to Platja des Pujols is easy -  the beach has a small paid parking lot located at 252 Camino de Sa Roca Bella, which provides easy access to the beach.

Es Pujols was once a small fishing village, but now it is a popular as well as the busiest tourist resort on the island, with many cafes, hotels, and apartments for all budgets that attract a large influx of visitors throughout the year.  Visitors can explore shops, fashion boutiques, flea markets, and hippie market stalls selling clothes, jewelry, and souvenirs on the main paved street.

There are many attractions near Platja des Pujols.  Camí de Can Marroig is a two and a half-mile-long easy hiking trail that meanders through juniper and pine forests.  This trail leads to a traditional Formentera windmill, which offers an interesting glimpse into the history of the island.  Ses Salines Natural Park is a protected natural area that is home to salt flats, sand dunes, coastal lagoons, and wetlands, making it a unique combination of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.  Visitors can enjoy many fun activities, including hiking, biking, picnicking, bird watching, and boating.  Es Caló is a small fishing village that is an active commercial port.
