Overview
Located to the north of the port of La Savina, Cala d’en Borras – also called Es Cavall d'En Borras and Playa es Cavall d'En Borras – is a 700-meters-long, narrow, northwest-facing beach with white sand, a nearby sand dune system, a nearby rocky shoreline, and a nearby juniper forest in northwestern Formentera. This beach is part of a natural park named Ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera Natural Park. Conde Nast Traveller listed this beach in its article “Formentera's best beaches, restaurants, bars and beach clubs,” and it is also a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.
This beach is considered a nude beach and is also popular with members of the gay community.
Amenities
Cala d’en Borras Formentera does not have lifeguards or any other amenities except nearby rental facilities for beach umbrellas and sun loungers. In addition, some of the beach bars here might offer access to restrooms to their customers.
Activities
Cala d’en Borras Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, water-skiing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, parasailing, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
The clear turquoise waters here are ideal for less-experienced swimmers due to having manageable waves. If you are planning to swim, kayak, or canoe here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents. In addition, the water here also has a lot of seaweed, which makes water activities difficult. This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it usually has fewer visitors as compared to other nearby beaches.
If you like taking pictures with beautiful views, Cala d’en Borras offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Mediterranean Sea, the northwestern Formentera shoreline, and the nearby islets of Es Vedra and Es Vedranell – the best time to click photos here is during sunset.
Disability Access
Cala d’en Borras does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities.
Parking
Getting to Cala d’en Borras is easy – this beach is easily accessible from the nearby port of La Savina and the nearby village of Es Pujols through a local road named PM-820-2. There are street signs near the beach that will lead you to it. Once you reach the beach, you can find multiple small free parking lots nearby, along with a paid parking lot at the nearby Beso Beach restaurant. Once you park at these lots, you can easily walk to the beach through a narrow wooden walking path.
If you like hiking or biking, you can also hike or bike to this beach from the nearby port village of La Savina through a hiking/biking trail – this trail offers a 20-30 minute hike to the beach from La Savina. This trail also passes near a lagoon named Estany Pudent before leading to the beach.
Another alternate access option is to visit this beach by boat—you can take a private charter boat to it from La Savina. We recommend visiting this beach early during the summer because it can sometimes get crowded.
