Playa de Ses Canyes

Located on the east coast of Formentera Island, Playa de Ses Canyes is a small white sand beach.  The beach is positioned within a small coastal village called Es Pujols and has a beautiful background of rocky cliffs, small coves, few restaurants, and beach huts, which together provide incredible views, especially during sunset.

Playa de Ses Canyes does not have lifeguards but offers many other amenities, including trash cans, parasol and sunbed rental facilities, a boardwalk, and shady areas.

Playa de Ses Canyes offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, surfing, and picnicking.  If you plan to go into the water near the beach, it is a perfect beach to swim.  The water near the beach is shallow, which is ideal for canoes, kayaks, and small boats.  It is an ideal spot for windsurfing due to its frequently windy weather.  It is important to note that part of Playa de Ses Canyes is often considered a nude beach – there is a designated clothing-optional area on the beach.  Playa de Ses Canyes is ideal for visitors looking for a serene experience, as this beach sees fewer visitors than other nearby beaches.  Dogs are not allowed here, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.

Playa de Ses Canyes does not offer an access path for people with disabilities.

It is important to note that the only way to reach Formentera Island is by boat.  If you are traveling from Ibiza, you can book a ferry that departs from Eivissa Harbour located at Avinguda de Santa Eulària des Riu, 17, which takes around 30 minutes to reach Formentera's port of La Savina and costs between €18 and €29.  There are multiple ferry crossings between the islands throughout the day. 

If you are traveling from Dénia, there are at least seven weekly voyages.  You can book a ferry that leaves from Dénia Port, located at Estación Marítima, S/N, Alicante, and reach Formentera in around two hours for a starting price of €66.

If you are coming from Barcelona, visitors can book a ferry that departs daily from Port Barcelona, located at Moll Adossat 6, and reach Formentera in around twelve hours for a starting price of €62.

Please also note that these ferry operators offer visitors the option to transfer their cars to Formentera on a ferry with them, for which you have to pay and book in advance.

In addition, visitors can also charter their own boats from each of these locations.

Once you are on Formentera Island, getting to Playa de Ses Canyes is easy - the beach has a small paid parking lot located at Carretera S Ferran, which provides easy access to the beach.

There are many attractions near Playa de Ses Canyes. Camí de Can Marroig is a two and a half-mile-long easy hiking trail that meanders through juniper and pine forests. This trail leads to a traditional Formentera windmill, which offers an interesting glimpse into the history of the island.  Ses Salines Natural Park is a protected natural area that is home to salt flats, sand dunes, coastal lagoons, and wetlands, making it a unique combination of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.  Visitors can enjoy many fun activities, including hiking, biking, picnicking, bird watching, and boating.  La Mola Trail is a four-mile, dog-friendly, easy hiking trail that leads you to the highest point of the Formentera island, where visitors can explore an 18th-century lighthouse and a museum. It offers incredible views of the vast Mediterranean Sea.  Cala Codolar is a moderately challenging hiking trail that leads to a small cove positioned on the southern side of the cliffs of La Mola, which is an ideal spot for fishing and watching sunsets.   If you are looking for another attraction near Playa de Ses Canyes, Cova Rosa is a natural sea cave that is famous for its striking red and orange hues on the walls and ceiling of the caves as a result of mineral deposits and algae growth.
