Overview
Located in the northern part of the island of Formentera, Sa Roqueta—also called Sa Roqueta Beach, Platja de Sa Roqueta, and Playa Sa Roqueta—is a 550-meter-long, east-facing, mostly rocky beach with some white sand. This beautiful beach is part of a natural park named the Ses Salines Natural Park.
Playa Sa Roqueta Formentera is sometimes used by nudists as a clothing-optional nude beach.
Amenities
Sa Roqueta does not offer lifeguards or any other amenities except seasonal rental facilities for sun loungers, beach umbrellas, and boats, so please plan accordingly. The rental facilities for sun loungers and beach umbrellas are usually available in summer.
Activities
Sa Roqueta offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, paddleboarding, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
This beach is ideal for less-experienced swimmers because the shallow and clear turquoise water here usually has manageable waves. In addition, snorkelers also visit the beach to explore its vibrant marine biodiversity and beautiful underwater landscape – the left side of this beach is a particularly popular snorkel site known to have coral reefs and underwater rock formations. If you plan to swim, kayak, or paddleboard here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves, particularly during summers. In addition, underwater rocks here can make water activities difficult.
If you like taking pictures with beautiful views, Sa Roqueta offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern Formentera shoreline, especially at sunrise. If you are looking for a quieter ambiance, there is a rocky coastal area with a series of coves to the north of the beach – this rocky area is easily accessible from the beach through a walking path.
Disability Access
Sa Roqueta does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities, so please plan accordingly.
Parking
Getting to Sa Roqueta is easy – from the village of Es Pujols, you need to drive along a local road named PM-820 that connects Es Pujols to La Savina. You then need to turn towards the right to another road named Carrer Proyecto Sr-1. This road will eventually lead you past Hostal Sa Roqueta Formentera to the free parking lot for this beach. Once you park at this parking lot, you can easily walk to the beach. There are street signs around Sa Roqueta that offer directions for this beach.
We recommend visiting this beach early during summers because it can get quickly crowded during this time.
Fun Fact
This beach received its name – Sa Roqueta – from a nearby cape is also called Sa Roqueta.
