Overview
Located near Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, Long Beach City Beach is one of the major beaches in the City of Long Beach. This beach is also known as Junipero Beach and Cherry Beach and is located below a blufftop grassy park called Bluff Park. The beach has light brown sand and calm waters, due to the presence of many harbors and breakwaters nearby. The beach has various amenities including lifeguards, showers, restrooms, and concession stands. Dogs are not allowed on this beach. Getting to Long Beach City Beach is easy - it’s located near 1 Junipero Avenue. There is a large paid parking lot near the beach at Junipero Avenue, from where you can walk east towards the beach. You can alternatively avail of street parking at East Ocean Boulevard and take the access stairs near Bluff Park to the beach.
Activities
Long Beach City Beach offers many activities including biking, wildlife watching, sailboating, motorboating, kayaking, kitesurfing, skating, canoeing, water-biking, wildlife watching, beachcombing, swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. The water near the beach is ideal for amateur swimmers due to its calm nature. However, we recommend reviewing the water quality before swimming here as the water near Long Beach City Beach is often polluted by repeated watercraft use. There are occasionally strong winds near the beach making it ideal for sailing and kitesurfing. The water near Long Beach City Beach is also home to sea lions and dolphins. The grassy bluff-top park near the beach has a walking trail and gives nice views of the Pacific Ocean. Free yoga sessions are held in this park from 11am daily. There is a biking and skating path on Long Beach City Beach which stretches all the way to Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier is located to the east of Long Beach City Beach and offers pier fishing spots and concession stands.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Long Beach City Beach. Bixby Park is a popular option for family visits as it has a playground, picnic and barbecue areas, volleyball courts, and a mobile skating park. The Long Beach Museum of Art houses over a collection of 3,200 artworks and hosts free interesting family art-making workshops on the third Sunday of each month and also exhibits artworks made by children of the local community. If you are looking for another attraction near Long Beach City Beach, Retro Row is a shopping area along 4th Street which offers a range of exciting shopping stores. This area has stores specializing in exceptional novelties including the vintage clothing shop Meow, the souvenir shop Songbird Boutique, and the vintage analog film photography shop Relics.
