If you are planning to go into the water near Seaward Avenue Beach, we recommend being extremely careful as the water here is known for frequent and strong rip currents. The water near Seaward Avenue Beach is also home to a variety of animals - depending on the time of the year, you can see a variety of animals here including seals, sea lions, dolphins, and migrating whales. The beach and the surrounding state park area are also home to a variety of animals including beach-hoppers and silvery legless lizards, and also to a variety of interesting birds including killdeer, whimbrels, willets, and the rare western snowy plover which is classified as threatened according to the 1973 federal Endangered Species Act. Another popular activity at Seaward Avenue Beach is fishing - you can catch a large array of fish here including the Pacific thresher shark, Pacific mackerel, white sea bass, halibut, corbina, and turbot. The Pierpont and South Seaward area situated near the beach offers many exciting restaurants, shopping stores, and local historical landmarks which visitors can explore.
A half-a-mile walk north from Seaward Avenue Beach will lead you to one of the largest picnic areas owned by a state park in South California. This large picnic area also offers many amenities including barbecue spots and restrooms. Volleyball nets are also present near this picnic area. There is also a bike path (starting from the state park entrance near the Ventura Pier) which offers a memorable biking experience with pleasant oceanfront views. There are bike rental shops available near Ventura Pier.
