Located in the city of Avila Beach in the county of San Luis Obispo, Fisherman’s Beach is a little less than a mile long and very wide beach. Also known as Dog Beach, Fisherman’s Beach is across the street from Fisherman's Memorial and adjacent to the historic Harford Pier – you can fish here without a license.
Amenities
Fisherman’s Beach welcomes dogs off-leash and offers very few amenities including a pier and campground. If you are looking for additional amenities, you can walk two minutes north to Avila Beach Paddlesports where you can rent water sports equipment.

There are many fun activities here including swimming, surfing, kayaking, fishing, stand-up paddle-boarding, and biking.

Getting to Fisherman’s Beach is very easy – the beach is situated at 3950 Avila Beach Drive and there is a free parking lot 100-feet away on the north side of the beach.

If you are looking for nearby attractions, there are many within a 15-minute drive of Fisherman’s Beach. Situated on oceanfront bluffs, Dinosaurs Caves Park is 11 acres in size and features a lawn, playground, rock arch, tide pools, caves, and hiking trails. Central Coast Aquarium is a small non-profit aquarium that provides hands-on marine life educational programs and interactive experiences. If you like hot springs, Avila Hot Springs is a public swimming pool that was discovered in 1907 and offers a hot mineral soaking pool, a freshwater pool with slides, RVs, camping sites, and bike rentals. Another incredible attraction near Fisherman’s Beach is Port San Luis Lighthouse, the only Prairie Victorian-style lighthouse left on the west coast of the United States that is a fantastic place to click Instagram-worthy pictures.
