Overview
Located in the city of Avila Beach in the county of San Luis Obispo, Point San Luis Lighthouse Beach is a small beach on Port San Luis Harbor. Also known as Pecho Coast, Point San Luis Lighthouse Beach is adjacent to the historic Point San Luis Lighthouse that is the only Prairie Victorian model lighthouse left on the west coast of the United States and is a fantastic place to take Instagram-worthy pictures.
Activities
Point San Luis Lighthouse Beach offers many fun activities including swimming, hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding. If you are looking for additional activities, you can make reservations for Port San Luis Lighthouse van tours through the Lighthouse Keepers that cost $25 for adults and $20 for kids. Please note that visitors must have a guide for these tours.
Parking
There are two ways to get to Point San Luis Lighthouse Beach after parking at the paid lot situated at Wild Cherry Canyon and Avila Beach Drive – one is hiking two miles with a guide and the other is by a kayak or stand-up paddleboard which will take you directly to the beach. Please note that this parking lot can only be accessed if you have reservations for van tours.

Situated on oceanfront bluffs, Dinosaurs Caves Park is 11 acres in size and features a lawn, playground, rock arch, tide pools, caves, and hiking trails. If you like hot springs, Avila Hot Springs is a public swimming pool that was discovered in 1907 and offers a hot mineral soaking pool, a freshwater pool with slides, RVs, camping sites, and bike rentals. Another incredible attraction near Point San Luis Lighthouse Beach is the Museum of Natural History, a local history museum that provides interactive ecology exhibitions.
