The Torrey Pines State Beach and the nearby Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve (both managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation) are spread over 2,000 acres and have a vivid landscape that is home to many species of endangered plants. This area is also home to the critically endangered Torrey pine tree. You can explore the unique flora and fauna present in the state beach and the reserve through hiking trails present here. However, if you are planning to hike here, we recommend being careful as Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is known to have venomous rattlesnakes. The Visitor Center at Torrey Pines State Beach offers informative exhibits highlighting the state park’s unique natural history and geology, hosts informative docent-led nature hikes on weekends, and also has a native plant garden.
