Overview

Located on the western end of the Newport Bay, 19th Street Beach is a small beach that overlooks the harbor. Because this spot is less known to the public, this beach is more secluded and is perfect for those looking to avoid a crowd. There is a collection of small boats that are docked near the beach, and you can often see yachts passing by in the bay. Although there are no lifeguards or public restrooms at this location, you can take a short walk to Marina Park, where you’ll find bathrooms and a large playground. To get to this spot, there is paid metered parking along Balboa Blvd but you can find free spots in the nearby residential neighborhood.

Activities

This beach is perfect for swimmers, as the waters are incredibly calm. There are also lots of people who stand-up paddleboard or kayak along the bay. If you don’t want to get in the water, there is plenty of space along the sand where you can suntan or set up beach umbrellas. You can also rent bikes at 20th Street Beach and Bikes, and cruise along the sidewalk or visit popular sites such as the Newport Beach Pier.

Restaurants

If you get hungry, take a five-minute walk to The Old Spaghetti Factory, a family chain restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisines. We also like the Saigon Beach Restaurant, a Vietnamese eatery known for its pho, banh mi, and bao buns. Another excellent option is the Rockin’ Baja Lobster, a Mexican cantina with a Puerto Neuvan take on seafood. Their Taco Tuesdays always attract a crowd and they also have an extensive margarita menu.

Hotels

If you need a place to stay, there are lots of residential properties nearby that you can rent through Airbnb. You can also take a three-minute drive to Doryman’s Inn, a 3-star hotel with Victorian-style rooms and complimentary continental breakfast. If you want a more casual option, check out Holiday Inn Express, a family-friendly hotel with an outdoor pool and fitness center.
