Located in the town of Marshall, Hog Island is a small vegetated island with a very small and narrow day-use only boat-in beach-campground that is a part of Point Reyes National Seashore.  Hog Island is one of the northernmost beaches on Point Reyes Peninsula and is surrounded by the waters of Tomales Bay. Hog Island offers a boat-in campground that does not provide drinking water and you must carry all human waste out of it.

There are a couple of fun activities at Hog Island including kayaking and boating – you need to visit by boat or kayak to use the boat-in campground. Please note that you cannot visit the eastern part of the island as it is a sensitive wildlife habitat.

To access Hog Island, take a boat from Nick’s Cove or Lawson’s Landing – or a kayak from Blue Waters Kayaking situated in the town of Inverness.

If you are looking for attractions near Hog Island, you can cross Tomales Bay and then drive 25 minutes to the Links at Bodega Harbour, an 18-hole oceanfront golf course that hosts many tournaments and features a golf shop, gallery, restaurant, yacht club, and live music. Sonoma County Fairgrounds offers a horse-racing track, jockey club, carnival rides, and several open-air amphitheaters. It hosts many annual events including the Sonoma County Fair, The Harmony Festival, and The Sonoma Valley Harvest Fair – a wine festival with a grape stomping contest. The Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center is dedicated to the works of Charles M. Schulz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, and is home to a three-and-a-half-ton sculpture depicting the evolution of Snoopy – a character in the comic, Schulz’s studio, and three rotating galleries. Another great attraction near Hog Island is Scandia Family Fun Center, an amusement park with many rides including a pirate ship swing, train ride, merry-go-round swings, horse carousel, go-karts, and bumper cars.

If you get hungry, you will need to cross Tomales Bay and then drive 15 minutes to many restaurants near Hog Island. Litchfield’s at Sonoma Coast Villa is a seaside Californian restaurant with a nice menu that includes starters, soups, appetizers, oysters, desserts, and wine. The vegetarian-friendly Estero Café serves breakfast, lunch, brunch, happy hour, and dinner items. Another good restaurant near Hog Island is Dinucci's Italian Dinners, an Italian restaurant featuring pizza, pasta, Pesce, pane, and rice dishes.

If you are looking for a hotel near Hog Island, you will need to cross Tomales Bay and then drive 20 minutes to nearby hotels. The luxurious 4-Star hotel Bodega Bay Lodge is spread across seven acres and overlooks Bodega Bay – and has many amenities including a pool, lounge, spa, sauna, restaurant, fitness center, and hiking tours. The Inn at the Tides is a 3-Star hotel that features a pool, sauna, gym, and an oceanfront Italian bar-restaurant. If you are looking for an affordable hotel near Hog Island, the 3-Star Continental Inn offers beautiful rooms and suites.
