Overview
Located in the Naples neighborhood of the city of Long Beach, Marine Park is a grassy park with a beach known as Mother’s Beach or Marine Park Beach. The beach is situated beside the inland Alamitos Bay. Mother’s Beach gets its name due to its child-friendly nature. The beach has light brown sand and calm waves and shallow water, making it ideal for children. Mother’s Beach offers many amenities including lifeguards, drinking fountains, barbecue areas, showers, playground, concession stands, picnic areas, benches, and volleyball courts. Dogs are not allowed on this beach. Getting to Mother’s Beach is easy - it’s located near 5839 East Appian Way. There is a paid parking lot near the beach. We recommend visiting here early since the parking lot fills up quickly.
Activities
Mother’s Beach offers many activities including swimming, kayaking, row boating, canoeing, volleyball, paddle-boarding, dragon boating, jet skiing, parasailing, waterskiing, and picnicking. The beach is also popular with families due to a vast playground present in the adjacent park having numerous exciting rides, picnic spots, and water play areas. The calm and shallow water in Mother’s Beach is constantly supervised by lifeguards, making it a safe swimming option for children. However, we recommend reviewing the quality of the water before swimming as it is often also used by watercraft. The beach is also a popular spot for kayakers, canoeists, and rowers. Many aquatics clubs, including the Southern California Dragon Boat Club and the Kahakai Outrigger Canoe Club, frequently use this beach for their events.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Mother’s Beach. The Queen Mary is a former luxury ship that has been now converted into a luxury hotel and offers interesting tours and exhibitions showcasing its rich history as one of the most opulent ocean liners during the earlier part of the 20th century and as a troopship during World War Two. The Museum of Latin American Art offers an extensive art collection of 1500 works made by renowned Latin artists including Daniel Lind-Ramos, Liliana Porter, and Pájaro. If you are looking for another attraction near Mother’s Beach, Lomita Railroad Museum is set in the replica of a 19th-century railway depot and features various antiques including a boxcar, a tank car, and a locomotive.

If you get hungry there are many great restaurants near mother’s Beach within a 17-minute drive. Red Table is a high-end gastro bar that serves delicious steaks and seafood and is famous for its deviled eggs and bacon-wrapped dates. Creme De La Crepe offers delicious sweet and savory crepes along with a variety of other french dishes including quiche and chicken parisienne.
