Overview

Located in the southern portion of La Jolla, Camino De La Costa Beach Access is an accessway that offers access to a narrow rock-and-sand beach. This beach is located below a blufftop residential area and has light brown sand. The northern part of this beach is sandier than its southern part. The southern part of the beach near Camino De La Costa Beach Access has a sandstone rock platform. 

Amenities

The beach near Camino De La Costa Beach Access does not have lifeguards or any other amenities, so plan your trip accordingly. This beach allows dogs on a leash before 9 am and after 6 pm between April and October. Between November and March, the beach allows dogs before 9 am and after 4 pm. 

Activities

The beach near Camino De La Costa Beach Access offers many fun activities including tide-pooling, sunbathing, beachcombing, and wildlife watching. Recreational aquatic activities including swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding are unsafe in the water near this beach as it is known to have extremely strong water currents and dangerous waves. In addition, we recommend being careful while standing or walking near the water on the beach as sneaker waves can pull you offshore. Depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of animals in the water near this beach including seals, sea lions, and migrating grey whales (between December and April). If you like tide-pooling, this beach has many tidepools that you can explore during low tide.

Parking

Getting to the beach near Camino De La Costa Beach Access is easy - the access stairs to this beach are located near 5990 Camino De La Costa and a small free parking lot is also available nearby. We recommend visiting this beach during low tide as during high tide this beach can be almost completely submerged and inaccessible. We also recommend visiting this beach wearing appropriate footwear as it is known to have sharp rocks.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Camino De La Costa Beach Access. San Diego - La Jolla Underwater Park is a 6,000-acre underwater park that has many marine habitats including rocky reefs, sand flats, kelp beds, and submarine canyons. The park’s vibrant marine biodiversity makes it a great place for scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding. You can see many kinds of animals here including seals, sea lions, marine invertebrates, and an immensely wide variety of fish. This park also has interesting sea caves. In addition, one of the largest annual gatherings of leopard sharks in the world occurs in this park just offshore the Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla Shores Beach between June and December. These harmless leopard sharks are mostly females and pregnant and the warm water of this park helps in the growth of their young. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego La Jolla has interesting artworks and exhibits on display. If you are looking for another attraction near Camino De La Costa Beach Access, Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial is a somber memorial dedicated to the lives of brave men and women who fought for the United States of America from the American Revolutionary War to the present day. This memorial has more than 5,000 granite plaques honoring these courageous veterans and also offers magnificent views of the San Diego County shoreline.

This restaurant has also been praised by the MICHELIN Guide.
