Overview

Located in the southern end of the city of Treasure Island in Pinellas County, Treasure Island – also known as Treasure Island Beach is a long beach with white sand. Sand dunes are present near the beach, along with many kinds of native coastal plants - this coastal flora plays a crucial role in the local ecology by stabilizing the sand dunes. 

Amenities

Although the beach does not have lifeguards, it has many other amenities including ATMs, restrooms, showers, a boardwalk, and a water slide. Dogs are allowed on Treasure Island, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset. It is important to note that the beach also offers an access path for people with disabilities. 

Activities

Treasure Island offers many fun activities including fishing, biking, hiking, jet-skiing, scuba-diving, sailing, snorkeling, paddle-boarding, windsurfing, and swimming. If you are planning to go in the water near the beach, we recommend you to be careful as the water here is known to have rip currents. Depending on the time of year, visitors can spot many kinds of animals on the beach and in the water near it including seagulls, manatees, and stingrays. Treasure Island is ideal for windsurfing due to its frequently windy weather. In addition, tourists can watch and participate in the India Rocks Drum Circle – this circle is a weekly gathering where locals offer musical performances and dances. This gathering takes place every Sunday, is open to all, and offers a festive atmosphere.

Parking

Getting to Treasure Island is easy - the beach has a paid parking lot that is situated at 104th Avenue Gulf Boulevard and is within walking distance to the beach. You have to pay 2.75 dollars (per vehicle) to park here.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Treasure Island. Secret Garden is home to many unique plants - this garden has several sections including a Japanese garden, a butterfly garden, a cactus, and a succulent garden. In addition, visitors can spot Chilean flamingos, tortoises, and macaws in this garden which also has a koi pond. Gulf Beach Historical Museum is a former church that has been turned into a museum that exhibits the local history and heritage of South Pinellas. The museum has a gallery displaying postcards, newspaper clippings, photos, artifacts, and related memorabilia showing the growth progression of the beach communities.  If you are looking for another attraction near Treasure Island, John’s Pass Village & Boardwalk is a waterfront entertainment center that offers many fun activities including fishing, boating, parasailing, and jet skiing - and also has a shopping arcade and many restaurants.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Treasure Island. Shrimpys Blues Bistro is an upscale restaurant that serves eggs, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, pasta, and seafood - and also serves vegan food. Caddy’s Treasure Island is a beachfront restaurant that offers live music performances and serves delicious salads, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, tacos, seafood, and desserts. If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Treasure Island, the modestly priced VIP Mexican American Cuisine T.I. serves incredible Mexican dishes including quesadillas, salads, tacos, nachos, burritos, fajitas, burgers, steak, and seafood.
