Located in the northern end of the city of Fort Pierce, Avalon State Park is a mile-long beach with white sand. Coastal vegetation and sand dunes are present near the beach - this vegetation plays a crucial role in the local ecology by stabilizing the dunes. 

Although the beach does not have lifeguards, Avalon State Park has many amenities including restrooms, showers, boat ramps, barbeque facilities, four covered pavilions, and picnic tables. Dogs are allowed on Avalon State Park if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset. 

Avalon State Park offers many fun activities including biking, hiking, fishing, sailing, surfing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and swimming. If you are planning to go in the water near Avalon State Park, we recommend you to be careful as the water here is known to have rip currents. It is important to note that swimmers and snorkelers are advised to be cautious of underwater obstacles that were left behind by amphibious warfare exercises during World War II. Depending on the time of the year, visitors can spot dolphins, manatees, and sea turtles in the water near this beach. 

Getting to Avalon State Park is easy - the beach is present near Atlantic Beach Boulevard. You can easily get this access along Florida State Highway A1A on North Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County. Once you arrive, you’ll need to pay two dollars per vehicle to park at the parking lot. 

There are many attractions near Avalon State Park. McKee Botanical Garden is home to many kinds of plants including dendrobiums, plumerias, orchids, magnolias, hibiscus, and it also has a children’s garden. McKee Botanical Garden also hosts many interesting events throughout the year including car shows and antique shows. Manatee Observation and Education Center is a waterfront nature center that offers an Observation bridge and tower to watch wild manatees. In addition, visitors can explore interesting indoor exhibits including a freshwater tank, a saltwater tank, a seahorse tank, a coral reef tank, a tide pool touch tank, and a Striped Mud Turtle tank, which provides an insight into the local biodiversity. If you are looking for another attraction near Avalon State Park, Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary is a memorial park that offers several amenities including picnic areas, walking trails, and benches.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Avalon State Park. The Tides is an upscale seaside restaurant that offers amazing American cuisine including seafood, salads, appetizers, and desserts. 12A Buoy offers a light-filled view and serves incredible seafood, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, pasta, and desserts.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Avalon State Park, the modestly priced Mervi’s Café serves fresh sandwiches, burgers, steaks, and salads and the popular dishes include Cuban sandwiches, Cuban coffee, and croquettes.

If you are looking for a hotel near Avalon State Park, there are many great nearby options. If you are looking for an upscale hotel, the 4-Star Costa d’Este Beach Resort & Spa is 45 minutes away by car and offers many amenities including an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a hot tub, a spa, and a Cuban-fusion restaurant. A more affordable hotel is the 3-Star Hutchinson Island Plaza Hotel & Suites is a waterfront hotel that offers many amenities including an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a fitness center, and complimentary breakfast. As another moderately priced option, the 3-Star Dockside Inn & Resort offers many amenities including a fitness center, two outdoor pools, a hot tub, a whirlpool spa, a restaurant, and complimentary breakfast. If you are looking for another good and affordable hotel near Avalon State park, the modestly priced 2-Star Days Inn by Wyndham Fort Pierce Midtown offers a few amenities including an outdoor pool and an American restaurant.
