Overview

Located in the eastern end of the city of Melbourne Beach in Brevard County, Coconut Point Park is nearly 37 acres in size and has a beach with light brown sand.  There are sand dunes near the beach, as well as many kinds of native coastal plants which play a crucial role in the local ecology by stabilizing the sand dunes.  In addition, Coconut Point Park serves as a nesting beach for sea turtles, which are protected under the United States Endangered Species Act of 1973.  According to this act, any person who knowingly violates any provision of the act may be assessed civil penalties of up to $25,000 or criminal penalties of up to $100,000 and up to one year of imprisonment. 

Amenities

Although Coconut Point Park does not have lifeguards, the beach has several other amenities including picnic shelters, restrooms, and outdoor showers.  Dogs are not allowed on the beach, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.  It is important to note that the beach also offers an access path for people with disabilities. 

Activities

Coconut Point Park offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, surfing, and fishing.  The beach is ideal for windsurfing due to its frequently windy weather.  In addition, it is a popular fishing spot, and you can catch many kinds of fish here including mullet, red drum, and sea trout.  If you are planning to go in the water near the beach, we recommend being careful as the water here is known to have rip currents. Depending on the time of the year, tourists can spot many birds around the beach including black-bellied plovers, red knots, gannets, and red-throated loons.

Parking

Getting to Coconut Point Park is easy - the beach’s free parking lot is situated at 3535 Florida State Highway A1A, and a nearby wooden deck provides easy access to the beach. 

Attractions

There are many attractions near Coconut Point Park.  McLarty Treasure Museum has a gallery that hosts interesting exhibits and videos recounting the history of the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet - it also displays the artifacts and shipwreck-related memorabilia.  In addition, the museum has an observation deck that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.  Manatee Sanctuary Park is a 10-acre park situated on the borders of Banana River that serves as a protected manatee habitat.  The park has many amenities including a playground, a paved trail, exercise stations, a covered riverside boardwalk, picnic tables, barbeque grill areas, a covered pavilion, electric vehicle charging stations, and a small library.  If you are looking for another attraction near Coconut Point Park, Melbourne Beach Pier is a fishing pier that extends onto the Indian River.  It is an ideal fishing and picnicking spot that offers a few amenities including picnic tables and a boardwalk.

Restaurants

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Coconut Point Park.  Djon’s Steak And Lobster House is an upscale restaurant that serves incredible seafood, steaks, lobster, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts.  Cafe Coconut Cove is a waterfront German restaurant that serves salads, appetizers, schnitzel, seafood, steaks, and desserts.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near Coconut Point Park, the modestly priced Cantina Dos Amigos is a Mexican restaurant that serves delicious salads, wraps, fajitas, burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, and seafood.
