Overview
Located near the town of Jupiter, Blowing Rocks Preserve is a nature preserve that has a large one-mile long unnamed beach with light-brown sand and some rocky portions. This beach is also known as Blowing Rocks Preserve Beach and Blowing Rocks Beach. This beach is situated in Martin County on an island called Jupiter Island. The exquisite rocky portions of the beach in Blowing Rocks Preserve are composed of Anastasia limestone. Tropical vegetation is also present near this beach. The beach and the preserve are managed by an environmental organization known as The Nature Conservancy.
Amenities
The beach in Blowing Rocks Preserve does not have lifeguards. However, the beach and the area around it have many other amenities including showers, restrooms, a boardwalk, and trails. Dogs are not allowed in this preserve.

The beach in Blowing Rocks Preserve offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, tidepooling, wildlife watching, hiking, rock-hounding, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, water-skiing, surf-skiing, and boating. The clear water near this beach is ideal for snorkelers and scuba divers, who enter the water here to explore its vibrant biodiversity - rocky reefs are present in the water near Blowing Rocks Preserve which offers an amazing snorkeling and scuba diving experience, especially during spring and summers. Depending on the time of the year, you can view many kinds of aquatic animals in the water here including marine invertebrates, manatees, sea turtles, and more than 250 kinds of fish including groupers, sharks, and sting-rays. In addition, the beach is also used by sea turtles as a seasonal nesting spot. If you like birdwatching, you can also view many kinds of shorebirds around the beach in Blowing Rocks Preserve. The beach in Blowing Rocks Preserve is also an amazing fishing spot - you can catch many kinds of fish in the water here (especially during autumn and winter) including Spanish mackerel and bluefish. However, if you are planning to fish in the water near Blowing Rocks Preserve, we recommend following the local fishing regulations. Blowing Rocks Preserve has an amazing variety of habitats including coastal hammock forests, mangrove wetlands, and sand dune fields - you can explore the preserve’s vibrant landscape through the hiking trails present here. In addition, you can also view many interesting kinds of animals and birds here including gopher tortoises, ospreys, snakes, lizards, and warblers. The preserve also offers guided hikes of its premises on Sundays at 11 am. The Hawley Education Center is also present in the preserve – this center has interesting interpretive exhibitions about the local natural history and it also has artistic exhibitions

Getting to Blowing Rocks Preserve is easy - the preserve is situated near 574 South Beach Road, which is easily available from Interstate 95 and where a small parking lot is also available. It is important to note that you need to pay a small fee for accessing Blowing Rocks Preserve. The preserve is open to the general public from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
Fun Fact
As an interesting fact, the beach gets its name due to a unique phenomenon - during stormy weather, the ocean water collides with the limestone rocks here, which results in a powerful vertical burst of water up to the height of 50 feet.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Blowing Rocks Preserve within a 20-minute drive. Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife refuge that serves as a wildlife center and a veterinary hospital for wild animals. The sanctuary has nature trails that lead through a variety of habitats including oak hammocks, cypress wetlands, and pine flatwoods. You can view many kinds of animals here including foxes, snakes, crocodiles, panthers, and bears. The sanctuary also has many amenities including picnic areas and restrooms. Jonathan Dickinson State Park is the largest state park in Southeast Florida. This state park has interesting hiking, biking, and equestrian trails which you can use to explore its amazing landscape. You can also view many kinds of animals in the state park including foxes, Florida scrub-jays, gopher tortoises, manatees, otters, bobcats, alligators, turtles, and raccoons. A portion of the Loxahatchee River flows through the park - a pontoon boat named Loxahatchee Queen offers visitors a 90-minute tour of this river. During this tour they can also explore the restored 1930s homestead of a locally famous trapper known as Trapper Nelson. This state park also has a World War Two-era training facility. The state park also has campgrounds (that accommodate both tents and RVs), an observation tower atop a large sand dune named Hobe Mountain, playgrounds, and picnic areas. The state park also has Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center, which offers interesting interpretive exhibitions. If you are looking for another attraction near Blowing Rocks Preserve, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum has a 108 feet tall lighthouse which was built in the 19th-century and is a part of the United States’ National Register of Historic Places. The museum premises also have many other interesting historical buildings which offer a unique insight into Southern Florida’s vibrant history including a World War Two-era radio station, the lighthouse keeper’s workshop and deck, and a Native American Seminole structure known as chickee.
