Overview

Located between the cities of Long Beach and Huntington Beach in Southern California, Seal Beach is popular with families because of its calm waters, pristine sands, and plentiful amenities.

Amenities

This beach has many amenities including outdoor showers, restrooms, and seasonal lifeguards.

Activities

The calm waters here are great for swimming, surfing, and bodysurfing. The beach is protected from large waves by the entrance to Anaheim Bay and a jetty, making this the perfect spot for beginner surfers. Located right on the sand is M & M Surfing School, where lessons start at $90 for a 3-hour session. The light tan sand stretches for over a mile and is perfect for walking, playing volleyball, and sunbathing. If you’re looking to stay onshore, make sure to take in the view at the end of the Seal Beach Pier, the second-longest wooden pier in California. There is also a fenced beachfront playground with a sandbox and benches at the entrance to the pier.

Parking

To get to this beach, you can drive along Ocean Avenue, where you will find a paid parking lot with access to the sand. Parking can be difficult to find on busy days, so be sure to arrive early.

Restaurants

If you’re looking for a snack, Bogart’s Coffee House is only a 3-minute walk from the entrance to the pier and serves organic coffee with homemade sandwiches and pastries in a comfy environment. You’ll also find many restaurants within a 9-minute walk from Seal Beach. We like Walt’s Wharf for their classic seafood-focused menu and extensive wine list. The family that owns the restaurant also owns a nearby vineyard, which supplies much of the wine on their famous wine list. If you’re looking for something more casual, Taco Surf serves delicious California-style Mexican food in a surf-themed interior.

Hotels

If you’re looking for a place to stay, check out one of the many accommodations less than a 10-minute drive from the beach. The Pacific Inn is the closest hotel to Seal Beach and offers complimentary hot breakfast, an atrium pool, and a fitness center. You can also stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Seal Beach, a modern hotel with free breakfast, an outdoor pool, and free parking. Another option is the Golden Sail Hotel, an unpretentious hotel with an on-site restaurant and cocktail lounge and meeting and event spaces.
