Overview
Located south of Point Vicente, Pelican Cove Beach is a rocky beach situated adjacent to Palos Verdes Drive South. The beach is situated in arch-shaped Pelican Cove which stretches between Vicente Point and another rocky point called Toveemor Rock. The beach is full of gravel, pebbles, and dry kelp, so it’s advisable to visit the beach with appropriate footwear.

Pelican Cove Beach offers a number of activities including boating, beach walking, scuba diving, snorkeling, wildlife watching, surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, bodysurfing, boogie boarding, tide-pooling. If you are planning to go in the water, look out for sharp rocks. Depending on the time of the year, you can see seals, sea-lions dolphins, and migrating whales near the beach. There are unique black basalt rock formations present on the beach. The clear waters near the beach make it an ideal spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and bodysurfing.

Getting to Pelican Cove is easy - the access route to the beach is located near 31300 Palo Verdes Drive South, from where you can take the walking path to the beach. There is a free parking lot near Pelican Cove Beach.
Attractions
There are many great attractions near Pelican Cove Beach. If you head south along the blufftop through the walking trail, you’ll get to Toveemor Rock which gives great views of the Pacific. However, we recommend being careful as this coastline is slippery. Another attraction near the beach is Point Vicente Lighthouse and Interpretive Center which details the natural and cultural history of Rancho Palos Verde and offers interesting exhibits and features a native plant garden. Another nearby attraction is the Palos Verdes Art Center which organizes art exhibitions and studio classes. Another nearby attraction is the Lomita Railroad Museum which is set in a replica of a 19th-century railway depot and exhibits a variety of antique locomotives and boxcars.
Restaurants
If you're looking for a restaurant, the high-end, fine dining Primo Italia is 16 minutes away by car and is famous for its black truffle pasta, Italian salads, and steak Florentine. The Original Red Onion is a great Mexican restaurant that serves excellent fajitas, fish tacos, and enchiladas in generous portions. A great modestly priced option is Naja’s Place which is 25 minutes away and serves great burgers and kebabs.

If you are looking for a hotel near Pelican Cove Beach, there are many great options. The 4-Star Beach House Hermosa Beach is 29 minutes away and offers many amenities including a fitness center, hot tub, spa, and complimentary breakfast. A more affordable option is the 3-Star Redondo Beach Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which is 23 minutes away and offers a variety of amenities including a pool, a hot tub, bicycle hire, and a fitness center. The modestly priced 2-Star Quality Inn Lomita-Torrance is another good option.
