Overview

Located in the city of Monterey, McAbee Beach is a small and narrow beach situated in the Cannery Row neighborhood of the city. McAbee Beach is named after John McAbee who bought the nearby area to develop it into a tourist spot in the early 1900s. Cannery Row is now an incredible fishing spot and tourist destination. Also known as MacAbee Beach, McAbee Beach is a well-known destination for scuba diving and kayaking.

McAbee Beach offers many amenities including rock arches, boulders, tide pools, and historic features like old concrete walls and foundations.

Activities

There are a couple of fun activities at McAbee Beach including scuba diving, kayaking, and fishing. If you are looking for additional activities, you can drive four minutes south to a whale watching tour agency named Fast Raft.

Getting to McAbee Beach is easy – the beach is situated at 600 Cannery Row and there is metered street parking nearby.

Attractions

If you are looking for attractions near McAbee Beach, you can drive 40 minutes to the Aptos History Museum that is home to many historical exhibits, photographs, and antiques from the city of Aptos. The gravity-defying Mystery Spot is among the most prominent illusion-based tourist attractions – visitors can experience demonstrations that disobey gravity inside a wooden building and while walking up a steep hill here. Bigfoot Discovery Museum is devoted to an American folklore ape-like creature Bigfoot and features tchotchkes from the 1970s Bigfoot boom and the 1980s resurrection with Harry and the Hendersons memorabilia. Another great attraction near McAbee Beach is Adventure Sports Unlimited that offers many underwater courses including swimming, scuba diving, diving, and snorkeling. 

Restaurants

If you get hungry, you can drive 10 minutes to many restaurants near McAbee Beach. Rio Grill features feijoada completa, tofu, smoothies, desserts, a nice bar with a lengthy wine list since 1983, and an outdoor patio setting. The European restaurant La Bicyclette Restaurant serves salmon, steaks, French fries, artichokes, cocktails, wines, and beers. Another good restaurant near McAbee Beach is Il Tegamino, an Italian eatery with classic comfort food and an outdoor courtyard. 

Hotels

If you are looking for a hotel near McAbee Beach, there are many hotels within a 15-minute drive.  The 4-Star Vagabond's House is an incredible pet-friendly hotel. Jabberwock Inn is a 1911 Craftsman-style 3-Star hotel featuring a solarium, Jacuzzis, and diving, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and windsurfing tours. If you are looking for budget-friendly hotels near McAbee Beach, the 2-Star Butterfly Grove Inn welcomes pets and has a nice pool – and the 2-Star Colton Inn offers a sauna.
