Overview

Located in the city of Monterey, Coast Guard Pier is a 1700-feet-long pier with a small beach on its southern side.  Coast Guard Pier was built in the 1930s by the Army Corps of Engineers and protects over 600 boats - and is a perfect destination for fishing. Coast Guard Pier is a dock for the 110-feet-long US Coast Guard Cutter LONG ISLAND and the Monterey Fire Boat.  Coast Guard Pier offers a couple of amenities including restrooms, showers, and boat ramps.

There are many fun activities at Coast Guard Pier including fishing, boating, and watching seabird rookery, sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. 

Parking

Getting to Coast Guard Pier is easy – after you get off of Lighthouse Avenue, drive east to a paid parking lot at 32 Cannery Row that is situated in front of the pier.

Attractions

If you are looking for attractions near Coast Guard Pier, you can drive four minutes to The Old Fisherman’s Wharf, a fun tourist attraction site that offers souvenir shops, art galleries, whale watching tours, boating tours, fishing trips, and you can also watch sea lions sleeping on the buoys and moored boats in the bay. The Point Sur State Historic Park is a historical landmark providing walking tours of the 1889 Point Sur Lighthouse and Point Sur State Marine Reserve and Marine Conservation Area that protects ocean wildlife and marine ecosystem. Spread across 1,006 acres, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park features a 1,200 years old tree named the Colonial Tree, a 60 feet tall waterfall named Pfeiffer Falls, a campground, and beautiful redwood groves. Another great attraction near Coast Guard Pier is Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary which is home to thousands of monarch butterflies that visitors can see starting from late October to February.

If you get hungry, there are many restaurants within a 15-minute drive of Coast Guard Pier. The Italian restaurant Little Napoli features pizza, pasta, pesce, pane, carne, and rice dishes. If you like Asian food, Tommy’s Wok offers sushi, noodles, unagi, soba, udon, and onigiri. Another good restaurant near Coast Guard Pier is Yafa which serves Mediterranean food including Fettuccine Alfredo, pasta, chicken, and beef dishes along with special items for vegans.
