Located on the eastern side of the city of Malibu, La Costa Beach is an excellent surfing destination and one mile in length. Although all beaches in California are public beaches, La Costa is considered private since there is no direct public access - only the houses and condos along Pacific Coast Highway between Rambla Vista Drive and Las Flores Canyon Road have access. These residents have memberships to the private La Costa Beach Club, which is the only way to directly access the beach. If you don’t mind a long walk, you can go through the public access point on Carbon Beach at 22126 Pacific Coast Highway and walk east for a mile at low tides. Once you are on the beach, La Costa Beach Club offers surfboards, paddleboards, and a volleyball court for its members. You can also swim here, but during high tide La Costa Beach becomes very narrow and wet.
Please note that as a result of the Palisades Fire in January 2025, many of the businesses and homes near La Costa Beach have been destroyed, and we recommend not visiting this beach due to unsafe water conditions and poor air quality.
