Located in the city of Malibu, Surfrider Beach - also known as Malibu Surfrider Beach - is a mile long and is considered the place to go for the ideal Southern California surfing experience.  The beach is part of the Malibu Lagoon State Beach, which is spread over 110 acres and also includes the Malibu Lagoon and the Malibu Pier.  Surfrider Beach is positioned on the western side of the Malibu Lagoon, where Malibu Creek drains into the Pacific Ocean.  The beach has a spectacular background of many oceanfront buildings, including hotels, restaurants, and a museum, which together provide Instagram-worthy views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the vast Pacific Ocean, especially at sunset.

Surfrider Beach has many amenities including lifeguards, restrooms, showers, ATMs, picnic tables, and a fishing pier.  In addition, visitors can also rent kayaks and paddleboards

Surfrider Beach offers many fun activities, including fishing, hiking, paddle-boarding, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, swimming, volleyball, and whale watching.  If you are planning to go into the water near the beach, there is a safe swimming area.  However, we recommend being careful, as the water here is known to have strong waves and unpredictable rip currents.

Surfrider Beach has three primary surfing areas, with the first being popular for long and short boarding.  Several pop-culture icons, world-renowned musicians, actors, and professional surfers are found sharing waves at this point.  The second point is used for high-performance surfing and has a main takeoff that connects into the inside called the "kiddie bowl."  The third point has a left and right breakpoint.  The beach is an ideal spot for watching birds, as the Malibu Lagoon serves as a habitat for various avian species, especially snowy plovers.  If you enjoy fishing, you may catch killifish, top smelt, diamond turbot, California halibut, bay pipefish, starry flounder, kelpfish, and serranid.  Dogs are welcome on the beach if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Surfrider Beach offers an access path for people with disabilities.

Getting to Surfrider Beach is easy - the beach has a large parking lot with 90 spaces located at 23200 Pacific Coast Highway, which provides easy access to the beach.  In addition, visitors can also find a few free parking spots along Pacific Coast Highway, and another paid lot at Adamson House Museum and across the street from the Malibu Pier next to the store Aviator Nation.

Surfrider Beach became popular from surfing movies and television series in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly the sitcom TV show Gidget, and the beach was hailed as the first World Surfing Reserve by the non-profit Save the Waves Coalition on October 9, 2010.

There are many attractions near Surfrider Beach.  Malibu Pier is on the beach and is famous for its iconic dual white towers, rough-hewn planks, two restaurants, stores, and an observation deck where you can fish and look for dolphins.  Malibu Lagoon Museum showcases history from the days of the California Indian "Chumash" tribe, gentlemen ranchers, and the birth of the surfing era.  Adamson House Museum, which is also known as the "Taj Mahal of Tile," explores the history of Malibu.  Spread across six acres, Malibu Bluffs Park is a community park consisting of two baseball diamonds, a soccer field, a playground, a skate park, picnic tables, and a whale watching station.  It also hosts many events and sports leagues for children, youths, and adults.

Point Dume is a promontory that projects into the Pacific Ocean and forms the northern end of Santa Monica Bay.  It is a perfect spot for hiking, especially for beginners, because of its natural climbing wall and moderate single-pitch rock climbing routes.  If you are looking for another attraction near Surfrider Beach, Escondido Falls are the tallest waterfalls in the Santa Monica Mountains.  They are 200 feet tall and can be reached by following the popular Escondido Falls Hiking Trail, which is four miles long.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants within a two-minute drive of Surfrider Beach.  Nobu Malibu is an upscale, renowned Japanese restaurant that features Nobu Matsuhisa's signature dishes, including tiradito, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, and black cod with miso.  In addition, the restaurant is also mentioned in "Explore the Best Celebrity Hangouts in Los Angeles" by Fodor’s Travel.  Tra di Noi serves delicious Italian food and other great dishes, including vodka pasta and fusilli del posto! Carbon Beach Club Restaurant | Malibu Beach Inn serves incredible all-day menus, including eggs, sandwiches, steaks, French toast, omelets, salads, soups, seafood, beef, meat, poultry dishes, and desserts.  Taverna Tony serves amazing Greek food, including salads, soups, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, breads, dips, seafood, beef, and poultry dishes.  When you’re heading home from the beach, Country Liquor Store Malibu is a good place to stop for fine wine and beverages.
