To get to this beach, you can drive two blocks west of the Pacific Coast Highway, where you will find a free parking lot and free street parking. This beach has many amenities including outdoor showers, restrooms, and lifeguards. It also offers a grass park, playground, and paved bike path.
Activities
The waters here are great for surfing, and on breezier days, kitesurfing. You can take a 2-minute walk from the entrance to Sunset Beach to One Wave Surf OC, which offers surf lessons and surfboard rentals. The light tan sand stretches for miles and is perfect for playing beach volleyball, walking, and sunbathing. This beach is one of the widest in Southern California, so there is plenty of space. If you’re looking to stay onshore, you can take a 6-minute drive to So Cal Electric Bikes & Scooters to rent a bike starting at $20 per hour and cruise along the bike path that runs along the sand.

If you’re hungry, Sandbar is a popular Mexican excellent restaurant and bar that has an elegant and casual decor – the restaurant is known for serving amazing Mexican-inspired dishes including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, Mexican-style burgers, and salads – and it also has a great drink menu with that features excellent margaritas and pina coladas. Beale’s Texas BBQ is a short 6-minute walk away and offers classic Texas-style BBQ and comfort food in a casual setting. You’ll also find many other restaurants within a 5-minute walk from Sunset Beach. We like Harbor House Café for their unpretentious menu of classic diner fare served 24/7. If you’re looking to enjoy some seafood, Captain Jack’s is a great spot known for their surf and turf options served in a laid-back environment. The restaurant was founded by a renowned local surfer in 1965 and is run by the founder’s son today.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, check out one of the many affordable waterfront accommodations within a 10-minute walk from the beach. Best Western Harbour Inn & Suites is only two minutes from the water and offers complimentary hot breakfast, a gym, and a business center. You can also stay at Ocean Surf Inn and Suites, which has free parking, rooms with ocean views, and free WiFi. For a no-frills option, Ocean View Motel is one of the most affordable accommodations in the area while still offering easy access to the water.
