Located on the central part of the Half Moon Bay waterfront, Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach (which is also known as Naples Beach) is a part of a state park known as Half Moon Bay State Beach. The beach has light brown sand and the water here is extremely cold. While the beach does not have lifeguards, it does have restrooms and the state park area near the beach has picnic spots and walking and biking trails.

Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach offers many fun activities including wildlife watching, swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, beachcombing, sunbathing, paddle boarding, skim boarding, sail boarding, kite surfing, boogie boarding, and bodysurfing. If you are planning to go in the water near Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach, we recommend wearing a wetsuit as the water here is extremely cold and being careful as it also has riptides. The water near the beach is home to a variety of animals including dolphins, seals, sea lions, migrating whales (between December to April), and also to a variety of aquatic birds including gulls, sanderlings, and brown pelicans. Fishing is also a popular activity at Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach - from late spring through summer you can find large numbers of surf smelt here along with other larger fish including striped bass and halibut. Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach is ideal for those looking for a quieter beach experience as this beach has few visitors due to its hard access route. It also provides a nice view of the neighboring Pillar Point Harbor and the residential neighborhood of Miramar. Half Moon Bay State Beach, the state park within which Half Moon State Beach - Roosevelt Beach is situated, also offers many activities. The Coastside Trail is a hiking and biking trail located along the state park’s eastern boundary which highlights its vibrant coastal landscape – it can be used to explore other beaches of the state park including Venice Beach and Francis Beach. An equestrian trail is also available in the state park. Half Moon Bay State Beach’s Visitor Center also offers interesting exhibits offering a view into the vibrant natural and cultural history of the state park. The Visitor Center is open Thursday through Sunday between 10 am to 4 pm during summers. The portion of the state park around Frenchman’s Creek features a variety of archaeological sites belonging to the Native American Ohlone people.

Getting to Half Moon Bay State Beach – Roosevelt Beach is difficult due to its narrow and steep access trail . The access trail to the beach is located near the intersection of Young Avenue and Cabrillo Highway North/ California State Highway 1. There is a parking lot near this intersection which is also used by visitors from the nearby Dunes Beach. From this parking lot you can walk north along Young Avenue to reach the access trail leading to Half Moon Bay State Beach - Roosevelt Beach.

The Conservatory is an upscale restaurant that offers a pleasant view of the Pacific Ocean and also serves delicious gourmet sandwiches and seafood dishes. Cafe Capistrano offers delicious Mexican dishes with a Mayan twist and has also been mentioned in the MICHELIN Guide. Another great restaurant is the modestly priced Taqueria La Morida which offers delicious tacos, burritos, and quesadillas.

If you like camping, another good and modestly priced option is the Half Moon Bay State Beach Campground which is situated on the southern part of the state park. It offers accommodations for RVs and tents, and although there are no water hook-ups, the campground offers numerous amenities including electric hook-ups (on some sites), showers, and restrooms.
