Whitehaven Beach is one of Australia's best, with an especially unique landscape. The water is a broad canvas with swirls of white and blue painted over its surface; it's the shallow, blue waters and impeccably white sand that create a dynamic and stunning fusion of color. For the best view of Whitehaven Beach, head to Tongue Point on Whitsunday Island, where you can see the waters' luminescent color and the beach's peculiar shape. Its location in the Great Barrier Reef gives it the protection and cleanliness fit for royalty.
Whitehaven Beach is the haven for relaxing beach vibes only. The most popular activity is laying on the soft sand and taking a dip in the warm water. You can also spot turtles, dolphins, and other marine life that venture into the shallow waters of the beach. Another option for the whole family is a relaxing day-trip from Hamilton Island to the beach. Explore's Sail & Swim at Whitehaven Beach offers catamarans with the largest deck area per guest of any vessel from Hamilton Island -- the bigger the deck, the better the views. Helicopter tours from the island are available as well, with unparalleled views of Whitehaven's waters. The best places to stay are the five-star Qualia Resort and the popular Beach Club, which both offer optimal relaxation options after a long beach day.
There are just two exceptions to the beach's easy-going nature and relaxing aura: the annual Great Whitehaven Beach Run, held every year in June, and the Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim, held every year in November. These beach workouts can be tailored to fit every type of runner: young, old, athletic, or easily-out-of-breath. Another event to take your breath away is a destination wedding right on the beach, with guest transportation, sophisticated décor, and timeless wedding photos. Say "I do" to Whitehaven Beach, whether you're single, engaged, married, or someplace in between.
Since June 2018, the government of Thailand has closed Maya Bay to the public in order to allow local coral life to grow. The beach is not expected to reopen until 2021.
On the island of Koh Phi Phi Le exists a beautiful paradox: Maya Bay. The beach has a secluded, off-the-grid look, yet is one of the most popular beaches in the world. The bay is surrounded by lush sea cliffs on three sides and unbelievably clear, blue waters on the other. While this gorgeous scene has the potential for serenity, thousands of people attempt to step foot on the paradise, so be sure to arrive early morning or after sunset to avoid the crowds. The smooth, white sand, exotic coral reef, and overall aesthetic are what draw beachgoers from far and near.
Maya Bay was highly popular before its claim to fame in 1999, but the premiere of "The Beach," filmed along the waters of the bay, made it the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi. Join the hundreds of other snorkelers and sightseers on a speedboat or longtail boat, and enjoy colorful fish that swim near large, coral-encrusted boulders underneath the surface. Take a diving excursion, and experience amazing visibility even ten feet down. Kayaking is also a popular activity, with rentals available right on the beach. After a fun-filled beach day, head over to Efe Mediterranean Cuisine Restaurant or Restaurant Knock Out, two of the best dining options on the island.
The best time of the year to visit Maya Bay is between the months of November and April when seas are calm, allowing easier access to the beach. The best time of the day? We can't possibly choose. At dark, Bioluminescent Phytoplankton, which are essentially glowing sea creatures, light up the waters of Maya Bay, giving the beach a magical aura of salt, sand, and shimmer. There are night tours available that take beachgoers to see the glowing waters, complete with snorkeling gear, meals, drinks, and music. Maya Bay is definitely a beach you can't possibly pass up!
St. John's most famous beach, Trunk Bay, is one of the most photographed beaches in the world, with lush greenery surrounding the white sands of the bay. The jungled park that lies just beyond the sand consists of hiking trails, plantation ruins, and views like no other. The beach itself has dreamy, turquoise waters and an atmosphere of romance and serenity.
Offshore coral reefs are incredibly well-preserved and beautiful, making for spectacular snorkeling. Snorkeling the Underwater Trail is 225 yards of stunning coral reefs, colorful fish, and thousands of unique photo opportunities. The more beautiful sighting is the rare indigo-blue tunicates, which are breathtakingly blue corals that seem to glow underwater. You can rent chair and snorkel equipment and enjoy other beach facilities, such as a bar/grill, chair rental, showers, restrooms, and lifeguards. Laying out on the sand under the natural shade from thick, coconut palm trees is the most amazing feeling while on the island of St. John.
End your day with a sunset dinner at one of our favorites, La Tapa. There are many delicious restaurants available on St. John, but none have the same innovative dishes or wonderful customer service that La Tapa has. As you sip the last of your wine and watch the sun gradually disappear behind the water's edge, snap a few pictures to remember your sophisticated evening and reminisce over your fun-filled beach day. Trunk Bay is the only beach on the island that charges an entrance fee, but it's obvious that every penny is more than worth it. Come relax at the famous Trunk Bay -- it won't let you down.

Located in Honolulu, Waikiki Beach is a beautiful and extremely popular beach with light brown sand and nearby palm trees. This beach is located in the popular touristy neighborhood of Waikiki. The beach’s name in Hawaiian means "spouting water" - the beach received this name because in the past multiple springs and rivers used to flow around this beach – as another fun fact Waikiki Beach was used by Hawaiian nobility for surfing. Waikiki Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the United State and was named the 4th Best Beach in the Top 50 Beaches in the United States list in 2022 by Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as "Mr. Beach.” It is important to note that Waikiki Beach is a part of a larger beach area that stetches for almost two miles that is also called Waikiki Beach – in addition to Waikiki Beach, this larger beach area is composed of seven other beaches including Duke Kahanamoku Beach (also called Kahanamoku Beach and Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Beach Park), Fort DeRussy Beach (also known asFort DeRussy Beach Park, Gray’s Beach (also known as Grays Beach, Halekulani Beach, Kawehewehe, and Grey’s Beach), Royal Hawaiian Beach (also known as Waikiki Beach Center and Royal Moana Beach), Kuhio Beach (also known as "The Ponds", Kuhio Ponds, and Kūhiō Beach), Queen’s Beach (also known as Queen Kapiolani Beach , Queen’s Surf Beach, and Kapiolani Beach Park), and Kaimana Beach (also known as also known as Kaimana Beach Park, Kaimana’s Beach, Waikiki at San Souci Beach, Sans Souci Beach, and San Souci Beach).
Waikiki Beach is constantly threatened by erosion – some of Waikiki Beach’s parts have been significantly reduced in size due to erosion. There are multiple rocky jetties and seawalls near Waikiki Beach – the beach’s southwestern portion particularly has many rocky seawalls near it. Although most of the portions of Waikiki Beach have lifeguards, there are some portions that do not have lifeguard deployment – these portions are located near 2055 Kalia Road, in front a hotel named the Halekulani Hotel, and adjacent to another hotel named Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. If you went to Rio De Janeiro and didn’t go to Copacabana Beach, did you go to Rio at all? There’s a reason this beach is so world-renowned and the inspiration for Barry Manilow’s 1978 hit song, “Copacabana.” This magnificent beach spans four kilometers and is divided by “postos,” markers that help divide the beach by activities and groups that frequent there. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even befriend many of the fun-loving Cariocas and get a deeper experience with the vibrant Brazilian culture.
During the day, there’s a plethora of activities to do at Copacabana like sailing, water skiing, surfing, hiking, biking, and spiking volleyballs. Beach chairs and umbrellas welcome all beachgoers to lounge and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Copacabana is split by 6 postos. North of Copacabana, posto 1 establishes a quieter section known as Leme Beach where older locals and kids from the nearby favelas like to hang out. Posto 2 marks the end of Leme Beach, and activity starts picking up on the beach. Here you’ll find plenty of opportunities to join the locals in games of volleyball, football (soccer), and frescoball. Posto 4 has a section of palm trees where you can enjoy the shade and watch slackliners try their hand at gravity-defying acrobatics just feet off the ground. The southern end of Copacabana, between postos 5 and 6, is the best area to surf, paddle board, and swim. The Copacabana Fort acts as a windbreaker that prevents waves from getting too choppy inviting surfers of all experience levels.
If you’re looking to slow down the pace over a meal, sit down at Churrascaria Palace, one of the best churrascarias (traditional Brazilian barbecue restaurant) in town, where waiters bring out some of the juiciest and well-prepared meats you will ever have. If you want something a little quicker or more casual, drop by Joaquina, a restaurant just south of posto 1 at the north end of Copacabana. With an ocean-facing location, outdoor seating, and traditional Brazilian cuisine, you won’t be disappointed by the experience.
As the day comes to a close and the nightcrawlers start to come out from their mid-day siestas, Copacabana transforms into a night owl’s haven. If you’re looking for live music at a hole-in-the-wall dive bar, drop by Bip Bip, a Copacabana staple just west of posto 5 famous for bringing local musicians to play some of the best choro and samba music around. If you want something a little roomier, check out Mariuzinn Disco Club. With two bars, two dance floors, and an upstairs balcony to top it off, you’ll be sure to have an authentic Brazilian night out.

Located on the southwesternmost end of Chania on the island of Crete in Greece, Elafonissi Beach is a long and wide pink sand beach with many rocky portions and a sandbar. The beach is recognized as one of the world’s top beaches for its unparalleled natural beauty and unique pink sand. The sand gets its color from crushed shells and coral fragments mixed with the white sand. The beach is positioned along the Libyan Sea and has a beautiful backdrop of rocky outcrops, dunes, and coastal vegetation, including sea daffodils and juniper trees. The beach is part of a mile-long Elafonisi Island, which is separated from the southwest coast of Crete by a shallow, warm lagoon, namely, Balos Lagoon. During high tide, the sandbar connecting the island is submerged under about one meter of water.
Elafonissi Beach is home to the remnants of the Austrian ship "Imperatrix," which sank in February 1907. The ship was caught in a fierce storm and was wrecked on the rocks near the small islet of Elafonissi. The tragedy claimed several lives, and a large wooden cross now stands on the islet in their memory. Later, a 23-meter-high lighthouse was constructed on the islet to prevent future shipwrecks, but it was destroyed by German troops during World War II. At the far end of the beach, ruins can still be found near a small chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, which adds to the historical and cultural aspects of the island.
Located in the Oregonian city of Cannon Beach, the beautiful Cannon Beach is a large four-mile-long beach with light brown sand. Cannon Beach has been named the 2nd Best Beach in the Top 50 Beaches in the United States list in 2022 by Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as "Mr. Beach." Portions of this popular beach are situated below oceanfront bluffs. This beach has a magnificent backdrop of oceanfront hills and residential houses. Many offshore rock formations are present in the water near Cannon Beach and the most iconic offshore rock formation along the Cannon Beach shoreline is a 235-feet tall intertidal basalt sea stack named Haystack Rock - this rock is the third largest intertidal rock formation in the world. This beach was named as the sixth best beach in the United States by TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards in 2020. Renowned academic Dr. Stephen Leatherman has listed Cannon Beach as the "Best Overall Beach" in Oregon in his book America’s Best Beaches. The city of Cannon Beach was also listed by National Geographic as one of "America’s Best Beach Towns." A creek occasionally flows through the beach into the Pacific Ocean. As an interesting fact, the beach and the city of Cannon Beach are named after a cannon from the 19th century United States Navy schooner Shark - this cannon was discovered near Cannon Beach’s current location in 1898 and it sparked the name change of the city from "Elk Creek" to "Cannon Beach."
Tulum Beach is an incredible destination, with Mayan ruins sitting atop rocky cliffs that overlook the bright, turquoise sea. The beach is the perfect mix of historical and modern, with the archeological remains and beachfront resorts sharing the same sand. Tulum is made up of multiple semi-private and public beaches, all along the same coastline and all equally as beautiful.
Playa Ruinas is the main beach, with the stunning Mayan ruins sitting just above it. The formerly walled city is surprisingly well-preserved and takes you back in time to A.D. 250, when the civilization once thrived. Playa Paraíso is a classic beach paradise, complete with looming palm trees, scattered beach huts, and a vast expanse of fine, white sand. Beach yoga, snorkeling, and boating are among the most popular activities here in addition to strolling along the shoreline without a care in the world. Las Palmas is another stretch of sand that offers its visitors peace and quiet; with no vendors, restaurants, or resorts directly on the beach, Las Palmas is the perfect escape while still enjoying the famous Tulum area.
The resorts at Tulum Beach are absolutely exquisite. Our favorite is Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa, as seen on ABC's The Bachelor in Paradise. This luxury resort boasts a large water park, a golfing green, yoga lessons, deep-sea fishing, and more, although the best thing to do here is simply relax on the breathtaking, private beach. Overall, Tulum Beach is a shockingly beautiful vacation destination and never fails to wow its guests.

Hanalei's food truck network includes juice bars, island wraps, acai bowls, and more, giving the bay a unique dining scene and laidback island vibe. Kealia Poke is the new fad on the island, along with the refreshing Wishing Well Shave Ice. One thing that makes the island so carefree is the commitment to authenticity and the refusal to give in to tacky tourist attractions. For example, you'll never see a chain restaurant at Hanalei Bay -- only mom-and-pop shops are scattered throughout the island. Free of typical brand names and tacky souvenirs, you'll feel like a local yourself! Enjoy your stay at Hanalei Bay, a beachy heaven that will leave you on a breezy, tropical Cloud Nine.
