Overview
Located in the southern portion of the community of Sandbridge, Sandbridge South is a long and large beach with light brown sand. Sandbridge South is the southern part of a larger beach named Sandbridge Beach.
In addition, two portions of this beach that are located near Little Island Park are called Little Island Park – North Beach and Little Island Park – South Beach.
Amenities
Sandbridge South has lifeguards between 9:30 am to 6 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
In addition to lifeguards, Sandbridge South also has many other amenities including restrooms, showers, a 400-feet-long pier named Little Island Fishing Pier, picnic areas, vending machines, beach volleyball nets, a playground, volleyball courts, watersports equipment rental facilities, basketball courts, pickleball courts, benches, and tennis courts. Dogs on leash are allowed on Sandbridge South before 10 am and after 6 pm between the Friday before Memorial Day and the Labor Day weekend. Dogs on leash are allowed on Sandbridge South at any time for the rest of the year.

Sandbridge South offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, wildlife watching, fishing, hiking, swimming, surfing, skimboarding, paddleboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, parasailing, jet-skiing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, surf-skiing, wildlife watching, kayaking, and canoeing. Sandbridge South is ideal for surfers because the water here offers good surfing waves throughout the year.
If you are planning to swim, surf, kayak, snorkel, scuba dive, canoe, or paddleboard near Sandbridge South, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves. Please also note that it is prohibited to swim within 200 feet of Little Island Fishing Pier.

If you like fishing, Little Island Fishing Pier – located in the southernmost part of Sandbridge South – is an ideal fishing site and offers a great fishing experience. If you are planning to fish from Little Island Fishing Pier, please note that fishing is only allowed in the water that is located towards the south of Little Island Fishing Pier. In addition, please also note that non-local visitors fishing from Little Island Fishing Pier need to pay a $10 fee.
Sandbridge South is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because this beach sees fewer visitors as compared to other Virginia Beach beaches.
Disability Access
Sandbridge South offers a wheelchair-friendly beach entrance for visitors with disabilities – this entrance is located near Little Island Park at 3820 Sandbridge Road. In addition, there are also three beach wheelchairs at 3820 Sandbridge Road that can be borrowed by visitors – you can contact local authorities through phone at (757) 385-7324 for more information regarding acquiring beach wheelchairs.
Parking
Getting to Sandbridge South is easy – this beach is located along Sandpiper Road and it is easily accessible from Interstate 64.
The main parking lot for Sandbridge South is located near Little Island Park at 3820 Sandbridge Road and charges a $5 fee per day for non-local visitors between 1st May and September 30th.

In addition, Little Island Fishing Pier – located in Sandbridge South’s southern portion – also offers a fun event named Party at the Pier, which offers amazing live music and great food options.

There are many attractions near Sandbridge South. False Cape State Park is a state park that has a beach named False Cape State Park Beach and it also has many habitats including salt marshes, maritime forests, swamps, sand dunes, and woodlands. The Bee & Biscuit offers many amazing dishes for breakfast and lunch including eggs, pancakes, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and oats.
