Bowman’s Beach offers many fun activities including hiking, sunbathing, beachcombing, wildlife watching, fishing, picnicking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, bodyboarding, skimboarding, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, and boating.
Bowman’s Beach is ideal for beginner kayakers, canoers, swimmers, snorkelers, paddleboarders, and surf-skiers because the water here usually has manageable waves.
The water’s clarity here also makes it ideal for snorkelers – there is a reef named Belton Johnson Reef that is located five miles away from Bowman Beach’s shoreline and is a popular snorkeling site. Belton Johnson Reef is home to a wide range of fish.
However, if you are planning to swim, surf, kayak, canoe, or snorkel near Bowman’s Beach, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents, dangerous waves, and toxic algal blooms. In addition, parts of the water here can also be deep.
Bowman’s Beach is also a great fishing site and you can catch many kinds of fish here including sheepshead, snook (usually between May and October), and redfish.
