St. Augustine Beach has lifeguards between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. During windy days, the water here also offers fun surfing waves, which offers an amazing experience for surfers, skimboarders, and bodysurfers. Snorkelers and scuba divers also enter the water near this beach to explore its vibrant biodiversity - depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of animals in the water near this beach including dolphins, manatees, and a wide variety of fish. In addition, the beach is also used as a seasonal nesting site by sea turtles generally between May and October. However, if you are planning to go into the water near this beach, we recommend being careful as the water here has unpredictable rip currents. In addition, you also need to note that swimming and surfing within 400 feet of St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier is prohibited. If you like birdwatching, you can view many kinds of migratory birds around St. Augustine Beach - some of the birds also seasonally nest on this beach. You can also drive your vehicle in certain portions of St. Augustine Beach. However, if you are planning to drive your vehicle on the beach, please note that you need a permit for doing so - you can visit St. John’s County’s website for more useful information regarding this permit.
St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier present near the beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Atlantic Ocean and the North Floridian shoreline. In addition, this pier is also an amazing fishing spot. However, if you are planning to fish in the water near St. Augustine Beach, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations. The pier also has a visitor center which offers helpful information to tourists visiting St. Johns County regarding local landmarks and events, along with interpretive brochures, maps, and pamphlets. The pier also has a snack shop and a gift shop. The museum premises have fun exhibitions and historic structures which offer a unique insight into the vibrant history of St. Augustine and Florida. Interesting demonstrations and live wooden boat-building sessions are also organised on the museum premises. The museum also has a shipyard-themed play area for children.
