Located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Sutro Baths is a historic beach on west San Francisco’s waterfront. Consisting of the ruins of saltwater and freshwater pools, the beach’s dramatic concrete foundations and walls make it a sight to behold. To get to Sutro Baths, park for free at the Lands End Visitor Center, and take a short walk south. Once beachgoers arrive at Sutro Baths, they will find plenty to do. Hikers and joggers love the beach’s scenic trails and tunnels, which offer panoramic views of the ruins and the ocean. Photographers love taking pictures of the beach’s ruins, waves, and vibrant sunsets. During low tide, swimmers flock to the beach for its temperate waters and stunning surroundings. And during high tide, surfers visit the beach for its exhilarating waves.
