Overview
Located in the city of Redondo Beach, Seaside Lagoon is a popular artificial saltwater lagoon. This lagoon is surrounded by an unnamed beach with light brown sand. The water for this lagoon is sourced from the Pacific Ocean. The ocean water is first used to cool the turbines of a nearby steam generating plant and then transported to Seaside Lagoon through large underground pipes where it is chlorinated upon entrance. This water is then de-chlorinated before being transported back to the ocean.

The water in Seaside Lagoon is generally calm, shallow, and clean making it ideal for beginner swimmers and children. The lagoon and the area around it have picnic tables, waterslides, and a children’s playground, which makes it ideal for families. However, if you are visiting with children, please ensure that you don’t leave kids unattended anywhere near the water here. As an interesting fact, the area near Seaside Lagoon also has a statue of the Meistrell Twins, who were eminent local surfers, divers, and businessmen who successfully invented and marketed the first neoprene wetsuits.
Parking
Getting to Seaside Lagoon is easy - the artificial lagoon is situated near 200 Portofino Way, and a paid parking lot is also available nearby. It is important to note that you need to pay a fee to access Seaside Lagoon - the fee for adults (over 17) is eight dollars while the fee for children (between ages two and 17) is six dollars. There is no fee for children below the age of two. In addition, the lagoon is currently open between June 18, 2021, and August 22, 2021, from 10 am to 5:45 pm from Fridays through Mondays. Redondo Beach Historical Museum offers interesting exhibits about the rich history of the city of Redondo Beach. In addition, the museum also has a courtyard with a rose garden, fountain, and gift shop. This museum is open to the public on Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm and on weekends from 12 noon to 4 pm.
