Overview

Located in the city of Newport Beach, Pirates Cove Beach - also known as Rocky Point Beach and Hidden Beach - is a popular small beach with light brown sand. This beach is situated below a blufftop park named Lookout Point Park. Pirates Cove Beach is a part of a larger state-protected beach named Corona Del Mar State Beach. Pirates Cove Beach does not have lifeguards, but the area around this beach has benches and restrooms. Dogs on leash are allowed on the beach before 10 am and after 4:30 pm. 

Activities

Pirates Cove Beach offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife watching, paddle boarding, boating, and jet skiing. The water near Pirates Cove Beach is largely calm due to its location inside Newport Harbor. This makes it ideal for beginner swimmers, kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders. The sandstone bluff side along this beach has unique alcoves and rock formations that you can explore during your visit. As an interesting fact, the beach reportedly received its alternative name (Rocky Point Beach) due to these interesting rock formations present along the bluff side. This beach was also used to shoot portions of the 1964 television series Gilligan’s Island and D.W Griffith’s 1916 silent film Macbeth. The blufftop area above Pirates Cove Beach offers Instagram-worthy views of the Newport Beach shoreline.

Parking

Getting to Pirates Cove Beach is easy - the access stairway to this beach is located near the intersection between Heliotrope Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, where street parking spaces are also available.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Pirates Cove Beach. Newport Beach Civic Center and Park is a recreational park that hosts many exciting events including art exhibitions and music concert series. In addition, the park also frequently displays interesting public artworks. The park also has picnic tables and hiking trails. You can use the hiking trails present here to explore the park’s vibrant landscape, which includes a Torrey pine tree grove and wetlands. Orange County Museum of Art has interesting exhibitions that display modern and contemporary artworks. The museum’s exhibitions specialize in modern artworks that are based in California and the Pacific Rim area. If you are looking for another attraction near Pirates Cove Beach, Lyon Air Museum exhibits a wide variety of antique military aircraft and other interesting automobiles. In addition, this museum also has many interesting memorabilia, automobiles, and aircraft from World War Two.
