Located to the north of Mendocino, The Point Cabrillo Lighthouse is a historic light station built-in 1909 that is surrounded by 270 acres of undeveloped coastal bluffs. Point Cabrillo Light Station is a part of Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park which is maintained by a non-profit organization - The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association. In addition, there is a small beach in Frolic Cove within Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park.

Point Cabrillo Light Station does not have lifeguards, but it offers many amenities including an aquarium, picnic tables, and restrooms. Dogs are allowed on leash. There are two ways to access Point Cabrillo Light Station. The easiest way is to follow the dirt path that begins at the north end of the free parking lot that takes you through the grasslands and coastal prairie. The second way to access Point Cabrillo Light Station is to follow the paved access road to the south.
