Overview

Point Cabrillo Light Station is a great beach located in a historic park with plenty of history for visitors to view. Located to the north of Mendocino, The Point Cabrillo Lighthouse is a historic light station built-in 1909 that is surrounded by 270 acres of undeveloped coastal bluffs. Point Cabrillo Light Station is a part of Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park which is maintained by a non-profit organization - The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association. In addition, there is a small beach in Frolic Cove within Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park. 

Amenities

Point Cabrillo Light Station does not have lifeguards, but it offers many amenities including an aquarium, picnic tables, and restrooms. Dogs are allowed on leash. There are two ways to access Point Cabrillo Light Station. The easiest way is to follow the dirt path that begins at the north end of the free parking lot that takes you through the grasslands and coastal prairie. The second way to access Point Cabrillo Light Station is to follow the paved access road to the south.

Activities

Point Cabrillo Light Station offers many activities including hiking, wildlife viewing, whale watching, and picnicking. If you like hiking, there are many hiking trails on the blufftop area Point Cabrillo Light Station above that take you to viewpoints that offer fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean and connect the light station to Caspar Headlands State Beach one mile to the north, passing Frolic Cove along the way.

There are many attractions near Point Cabrillo Light Station. Russian Gulch State Park is a protected area that offers many fun activities including hiking, tide-pooling, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, biking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. Headlands Trail is a four-mile-long hiking trail that features a beautiful 36-foot waterfall and a collapsed sea cave called Devil’s Punchbowl. If you are looking for another attraction near Point Cabrillo Light Station, Ross Ranchis a privately-owned estate which offers horseback riding tours through a redwood forest or on the shore of the Pacific Ocean.
