Sunset Point Beach offers many exciting activities including surfing, paddle boarding, boating, surf-skimming, boogie boarding, kitesurfing, body surfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife watching, fishing, sunbathing, and beachcombing. The beach is a popular spot for watersports as the waves here are low risk, yet fun and consistent, making it an ideal place for bodysurfers, paddle boarders, kayakers. Mid-April to late October is often considered as the best time for kitesurfing around the beach area as afternoon winds during these months are especially strong. The beach is often favored by surfers as the water here has great rolling waves, giving an excellent opportunity for a nice surfing barrel roll. Swimmers, divers, and snorkelers often stick near the coastline to explore the reefs and rock formations present in the water near the beach. However, it is recommended to watch out for unpredictable rip currents or great white sharks in the water when swimming or engaging in watersports near the beach. You can also fish on the beach; popular catches here include opal eyes, perch, and croaker. The water around the beach is home to a variety of animals including seals and sea lions. Will Rogers State Beach, the state park in which Sunset Point Beach is located, has another larger stretch of beach area which is popular among the LGBTQ+ community and is situated a short walk away from Sunset Point Beach. This much wider and sandier beach offers volleyball courts and biking paths.
