Overview
Located near downtown Half Moon Bay, Redondo Beach - also known as Wavecrest Beach - is situated in the central portion of Half Moon Bay waterfront. The beach is long and has light brown sand, and there is a rocky reef along its shoreline that is situated below steep and partially eroded bluffs. Redondo Beach does not have lifeguards or other amenities except some walking trails, so plan your trip accordingly. Redondo Beach allows dogs on leash. Getting to Redondo Beach is easy - it's located near the intersection of Redondo Beach Road and Thorne Avenue. There is a marked free parking lot on the blufftop area above the beach. There are many access routes down the beach from the blufftop, all of which are steep and hard to traverse. We recommend using a route present north of the parking lot which is safer and less steep, from where you can access Redondo Beach after going down the bluff-side. This beach, located near the Redondo Beach Pier, is a beloved spot for locals and visitors in the South Bay area, stretching along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway and connecting to neighboring Hermosa Beach and Riviera Village in Los Angeles County.
Activities
Redondo Beach offers many activities including sunbathing, tide-pooling, beachcombing, sunbathing, swimming, fishing, surfing, skimboarding, sailboarding, bodysurfing, kite surfing, boogie-boarding, kayaking, canoeing, boating, paddleboarding, and wildlife watching. If you are planning to go into the water at Redondo Beach, we recommend being careful as the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents. The water near the beach is home to seals, sea lions, dolphins, and migrating grey whales between December to April. Redondo Beach is also a great bird-watching spot - you can spot a variety of birds near the beach including cormorants, pelicans, gulls, and sanderlings. You can also fish at Redondo Beach – popular catches here include halibuts and surfperches. However, please ensure that you are following the local regulations while fishing. During low tides, you can walk south along the coastline to access the tide pools present at Miramontes Point below the blufftop Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. The bluff-top area directly above the beach is known as Wavecrest Open Space. A hiking, biking, and equestrian trail known as the Wavecrest Trail is present near the beach. Just a short distance away, you'll find King Harbor, a bustling marina and waterfront area in Southern California. This region is a part of the beautiful Santa Monica Bay, which extends to the nearby Manhattan Beach and the historic port town of San Pedro.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Redondo Beach. If you like golfing, Half Moon Bay Golf Links is set in the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay resort property and offers two 18-hole challenging golf courses, bocce ball courts, and a restaurant. Lemos Farm is a ranch-themed amusement park featuring exciting attractions for children including toy train rides, a petting zoo, toy car rides, and pony rides. Año Nuevo State Park is a nature reserve that features the remains of a 19th-century ranch and also features a variety of landscapes including wetlands, forests, and coastal scrub areas.

If you're looking for a restaurant, there are many restaurants near Redondo Beach. MEZZALUNA ITALIAN RESTAURANT is an upscale restaurant offering excellent pasta, steaks, and seafood dishes and is renowned for its range of Italian desserts. Another great restaurant is Sam’s Chowder House which was awarded Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award in 2020 and offers excellent seafood dishes including cioppino stew, lobster sandwich, gumbo,and clam chowder. A modestly priced restaurant is Jersey Joe’s Coastside which has been praised in a variety of publications including the Half Moon Bay Review and offers excellent burgers, sandwiches, hoagies, and cheese-steaks in generous portions.

The 5-Star Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay offers numerous amenities including three restaurants, a spa, two golf courses, a lawn with fire pits, a fitness center, a tennis court, a pool, and a spa. A more affordable hotel is the 3-Star Cypress Inn On Miramar Beach which received Tripadvisor’s Certification of Excellence in 2018 and offers numerous amenities including complimentary breakfast, evening wine sessions, and an in-house massage service. Another good and affordable hotel is the modestly priced 2-Star Inn at Mavericks which was awarded the Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award in 2020 and offers access to a nearby gym.
