Located at the mouth of Bixby Creek, Bixby Creek Bridge Beach is an idyllic beach in Monterey County that has light brown sand. The popular Bixby Creek Bridge passes above the beach and it is also flanked on both sides by really steep and high cliff walls. The Bixby Creek Bridge is located near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway / Cabrillo Highway and Old Coast Road, Carmel, CA 93923. The beach is surrounded by private property and is currently closed off to public access. The only practical way to legally access a portion of the beach up to the mean high tide is via boat. There is a parking lot near the northern end of Bixby Creek Bridge from where you can look at the beach and take Instagram-worthy pictures of it. Another viewpoint for the beach is on the Old Coast Road, which also offers a great view of Bixby Creek Bridge Beach and the valley present near it. The 714-foot long historic Bixby Creek Bridge, which is present above the beach, is one of the most popular and frequently photographed bridges in California owing to its exquisite design and incredible setting along the rugged Big Sur coastline. The bridge has featured in many songs, movies, TV series, and even on an express mail stamp issued by the United States Postal Service. The Bixby Creek Bridge is also a popular BASE jumping spot. However, it is important to note that while it is technically legal to jump from the bridge while BASE jumping, BASE jumpers often land on the private property below the beach which is legally punishable by local authorities as an act of trespassing.
