Goose Island State Park is located on the southern tip of the Lamar Peninsula in Texas, surrounded by the bays and estuaries of the Gulf Coastal Bend. The park is divided into two distinct parts: the mainland and the island. The mainland features live oak and red bay woods, tallgrass prairie, and a variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer and over 300 species of birds. The island is an oyster shell ridge with marshland, hosting plants like sea ox-eye daisy and seashore dropseed grass. The park is famous for 'The Big Tree,' a centuries-old live oak. Visitors can enjoy activities like camping, birding, fishing, and boating.
The park's unique blend of coastal and terrestrial habitats supports a diverse range of flora and fauna. The absence of a designated swimming area is compensated by the park's other attractions, such as the 1,620-foot lighted pier, ideal for fishing and sunset views.
With its rich history and natural beauty, Goose Island State Park offers a serene and engaging experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
