Located in the western part of Oahu, Lualualei Beach is a west-facing beach with light brown sand, some rocky parts, and a nearby coral reef.  This beach is a part of an 18-acre recreational park named Lualualei Beach Park.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Lualualei Beach.  Pokai Bay Restaurant is a restaurant that serves many amazing dishes including breakfast dishes, noodles, steak, burgers, hotcakes, desserts, pork, and shaved ice.  The Beach House by 604 is a waterfront restaurant that offers fusion cuisine with mainland American and local Hawaiian culinary influences including seafood, pastas, pizza, pork dishes, burgers, and sandwiches.  Aloha Poke is known for serving amazing poke, along with a variety of other dishes including rice bowls, fries, stew, and seafood.  Golden House Chinese Restaurant serves excellent Asian-style dishes including gau gee, wonton, noodles, Asian-style seafood, and chow fun.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Hannara Restaurant is known for serving a variety of delicious Hawaiian, Korean, and mainland American dishes including loco moco, kalua pork, saimin, burgers, and barbecued chicken.

If you are looking for a hotel near Lualualei Beach, there are many great nearby options within a 20-minute-drive.  The 5-Star Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina offers many amenities including multiple restaurants, a private beach area, a fitness center, kids’ clubs, and a spa.  The hotel also offers many fun activities including yoga classes and watersports.  Another upscale hotel is the 4.5-Star Aulani – also called Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa – that offers many amenities including multiple pools, a spa, and 10 bars and restaurants – the hotel also offers kids’ entertainment performances, movie nights, and pool parties and breakfasts with Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy.  The 4-Star Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club is another upscale hotel that offers many amenities including three pools, seven hot tubs, a private beach area, a sauna, a spa, a fitness center with complimentary fitness classes, two restaurants, and a bar.  A more affordable hotel is the Hawaiian Princess at Makahawhich offers many amenities including barbecues, a hot tub, a recreation room, tennis courts, and an outdoor pool.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby hotel, the 3-Star Residence Inn by Marriott Oahu Kapolei offers many amenities including a restaurant, a convenience store, a pool, and a barbecue area.

Although Lualualei Beach Park does not have lifeguards, the beach and the area around it have many other amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, drinking water facilities, and showers.  Dogs on leash are allowed in portions of the beach that are below the high tide line.

Lualualei Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, picnicking, hiking, fishing, tidepooling, camping, swimming, surfing, skimboarding, bodysurfing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, bodyboarding, surf-skiing, wakeboarding, jet-skiing, water-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.

If you like surfing, there is a popular surf site named Sewers that is located near this beach.  If you are planning to kayak, swim, or surf here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves, especially in winters.  In addition, there is also a limestone shelf nearby that makes water activities considerably difficult.  There is also a sewage treatment plant near the beach and the discharge from this plant makes the water here have a foul smell.  If you like tidepooling, you can explore interesting tidepools here at low tide.

If you like camping, this beach also has a campground and it offers a fun oceanfront camping experience – if you want to camp here, you can visit the City and County of Honolulu’s camping reservations website for more information regarding the campsite amenities, the campsite charges, and the rules for booking a campsite permit.

Lualualei Beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter experience because it sees fewer visitors as compared to other beaches of Oahu.

If you like taking pictures with excellent views, this beach offers amazing views of the Oahu shoreline during evenings.

Lualualei Beach does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities.

Getting to Lualualei Beach is easy – this beach is located near the end of Ala Poko Street, near its intersection with Pokai Bay Street.  In addition, this beach is also easily accessible from Hawaii Route 93, which is part of a larger highway named Farrington Highway.  There is a free parking lot near this beach.

This beach received its name – Lualualei Beach – after a nearby valley named Lualualei Valley.

There are many attractions near Lualualei Beach.  Waianae District Park is a waterfront recreational park that offers many amenities including grassy recreational areas, tennis courts, restrooms, picnic areas, basketball courts, and a playground – this park is also a great fishing site.  Kaneana Cave is an interesting natural cave that is 450 feet deep and 150,000 years old.  This cave has been carved through erosion by the Pacific Ocean’s waves – in addition, this cave is a prominent part of Hawaiian mythology and it was believed by the Ancient Hawaiians to be the site where mankind was born.  Puu O Hulu Trail – also called the Maili Pillbox Hike and Pink Pillbox Hike – is a hiking trail that offers an amazing way to explore the rugged Oahu landscape – this hiking trail also leads to multiple World War Two-era concrete bunkers that are locally called “Pillboxes.”  If you are interested in Hawaiian culture, Paradise Cove Luau is a private organization that organizes fun traditional Hawaiian luau feasts – these luau feasts offer many fun activities including games, live music performances, traditional Hawaiian ceremonies, and hula dance classes, along with many amazing food options.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Mt. Kaala Trail is a long, strenuous, and considerably unsafe hiking trail that will lead you to the peak of Mt. Kaala, which is one of the highest mountain peaks in Oahu.  Mt. Kaala’s peak offers amazing views of Oahu during clear weather.
