Overview
Located in Tybee Island near Savannah, North Beach – also known as Tybee Island North Beach and Tybee Island – North Beach – is a popular white-sand beach with multiple rocky jetties. North Beach has been named one of the Top 50 Beaches in the United States by Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach. In addition, this beach has also been listed as one of the "25 Best Beaches in the USA" by Travel+Leisure magazine.
Amenities
North Beach has lifeguards on a seasonal basis usually between mid-May and September. In addition, it has a few other amenities including a boardwalk, restrooms, a nearby playground, and showers. North Beach is popular with visitors looking for a quieter beach experience as this beach has fewer visitors than other Tybee Island beaches. Dogs are not allowed on North Beach.

North Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, wildlife watching, hiking, swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, boating, kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and parasailing.
North Beach is popular with surfers because the water here offers fun surfing waves – the area near North Beach’s rocky jetties is a particularly great surfing site. North Beach is ideal for beginner surfers, paddleboarders, and canoers because the water here has manageable waves. If you are planning to swim, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or surf near North Beach, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have dangerous rip currents. In addition, the water here is also occasionally known to have high levels of microbial contamination. Water activities are prohibited near some of the portions near North Beach and some portions of this beach are also solely reserved for swimmers. It is also important to note that water activities are only allowed within 50 yards of North Beach’s shoreline.
If you like birdwatching, you can see many kinds of birds around North Beach including pelicans, willets, and gulls. North Beach is a great fishing site and you can catch many kinds of fish here. In addition, this beach is also a great beachcombing site and you can collect many kinds of shells here.

Parking
Getting to North Beach is easy – this beach is located near 33 Meddin Drive. A paid parking lot is also located near the beach that charges $3.50 per hour between 8 am and 8 pm.
Fun Fact
You can see loggerhead sea turtles near North Beach – these endangered turtles also use this beach as a seasonal nesting site between May and October. In addition, North Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Georgian shoreline.
Attractions
There are many attractions near North Beach. Tybee Island Light Station was initially constructed in 1736 and it is 145 feet tall. The lighthouse premises also has three light keeper’s cottages and interesting historic exhibits. Tybee Island Museum is a museum adjacent to Tybee Island Light Station and it has many interesting exhibitions that offer a unique insight into Tybee Island’s history from the Pre-Columbian era to the 20th century. Jaycee Park is a recreational park which offers many amenities including a soccer field, a softball field, concession stands, restrooms, a waterway, a half-mile jogging track, a gazebo, a playground, a basketball court, grills, picnic areas, and pickleball courts. If you like going to the theater, Tybee Post Theater was built in the 1930s and offers many fun theatrical performances including concerts, comedy performances, dance performances, variety shows, plays, and musicals. If you are looking for another attraction near North Beach, Fort Screvenis a fortification that was built around 1875 – visitors can currently explore a part of the fort’s coastal batteries. In addition, one of Fort Screven’s coastal batteries – named Battery Garland - has the Tybee Island Museum that offers interesting historic exhibits.

The Salty Pelican is a snack shop that is located at North Beach and it offers many amazing dishes for lunch and breakfast including fried chicken, eggs, and barbecued eggs. Elizabeth’s on 37th is an upscale restaurant 35 minutes away that has an elegant vintage decor and offers many amazing gourmet dishes including seafood, beef tenderloin, and soup. Sundae Cafe is a restaurant that offers amazing dishes for lunch and dinner including seafood, pork chops, steaks, salads, pastas, burgers, and sandwiches.
