Located along the South Walton County shoreline, Grayton Beach State Park is a 2,000-acre state park with a large unnamed beach that has soft and white sand. This beach is also sometimes known as Grayton Beach (not to be confused with another nearby community with an identical name). Large sand dunes are present near this mile-long beach, and many kinds of coastal plants also grow near the beach including sea oats and bluestem. The beach in Grayton Beach State Park is rated one of America’s best beaches by Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.  

While the beach in Grayton Beach State Park does not have lifeguards, the beach and the area around it have many other amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, and nature trails. The beach also offers accessibility to people with disabilities. 

Grayton Beach State Park offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, picnicking, fishing, wildlife watching, hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, boating, snorkeling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, and surfing. If you are planning to go into the water near Grayton Beach, we recommend being careful as the water here has unpredictable rip currents. Depending on the time of the year, you can see many kinds of animals in the water near this beach including dolphins and manatees. If you like birdwatching, you can view many kinds of shorebirds around Grayton Beach State Park. In addition, sea turtles and migratory shorebirds including snowy plovers and least terns also seasonally nest on this beach. The endangered Choctawhatchee beach mouse can also be seen around this beach. If you are planning to fish in the water near this beach, we recommend that you follow the local fishing regulations. The beach also offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Northern Floridian shoreline, especially during evenings.

Getting to Grayton Beach State Park is easy - the state park is situated near 357 Main Park Road and it is easily accessible from Florida State Road 30A. The state park also has a parking lot. However, it is important to note that you need to pay a fee to access the state park.

There are many attractions near Grayton Beach State Park. Cerulean Park is a beautifully landscaped park that offers an amazing biking and jogging experience. This park has many kinds of interesting flowers including roses, passion flowers, and canna lilies. The park also has a fountain. Cerulean Park is present along the banks of a lake named Western Lake, which also offers a fun paddle-boarding experience. In addition, this park also hosts many interesting events including art festivals, musical performances, and food festivals. Point Washington State Forest is a large state-protected forest that has many kinds of ecological communities including wetlands, sandhills, grasslands, and wet flatwoods. This park offers many fun activities including hiking, biking, horse-riding, picnicking, and hunting. In addition, you can also see many kinds of endangered animals and birds including the American kestrel, gopher tortoise, and flatwoods salamanders. The forest also has the world’s largest population of Curtiss sandgrass. The state forest also has primitive campsites. If you are planning to camp here, you can call the state forest authorities at 1-877-879-3859 or visit Point Washington State Forest’s webpage at Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' website for more information regarding camping here.  If you are looking for another attraction near Grayton Beach State Park, the Wesley House was constructed around the turn of the 20th century and is currently a part of the Eden Gardens State Park. This house has interesting Victorian-style architecture and its premises can be explored through guided tours, which are offered between 10 am and 3 pm from Thursday through Monday. Before becoming a Florida State Parks property, the house was owned by Lois Maxon, a New York based publisher - visitors can also see Maxon’s antique furniture collection while exploring the house, which has pieces dating back to the late 19th and 20th centuries
