This beach and the city reportedly received their name – Indian Rocks Beach – because there was earlier a rock-encircled sulphur spring here.  This spring was frequently used by local Native Americans to cure diseases.  The European settlers noticed this phenomenon of “Indians” going to the “rocks” and eventually named this coastal area “Indian Rocks Beach.”
