Merritt Parkway Museum is a small museum that showcases the history, culture, and natural heritage of Merritt Island through exhibits, artifacts, and related memorabilia. Lighthouse Point Park is spread over 82 acres and features a historic lighthouse, a vintage carousel, a bath house, restrooms, a lifeguard, a boat launch, two pavilions, a splash play area, a playground, a summer concession stand, a fishing pier, picnic tables, a barbecue grill facility, and nature trails. Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is home to many animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes, koalas, gorillas, zebras, lemurs, elephants, monkeys, penguins, otters, pythons, macaws, gibbons, kangaroos, and crocodiles. In addition, the zoo also offers interactive animal feeding and petting sessions and hosts many interesting events and educational programs promoting environmental awareness and wildlife conservation. Tongue Point Lighthouse is a 31-foot-tall lighthouse positioned on the western side of Bridgeport Harbor that served as a navigational aid for the ships to safely pass the waters of Long Island Sound. Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point is a nature center positioned along Long Island Sound that preserves the fragile ecosystem of the region, including salt marshes, dunes, tidal pools, and barrier beaches that are dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats. Visitors can enjoy bird watching and many interesting educational programs that focus on conserving native wildlife. If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Boothe Memorial Park is a dog-friendly park that features a carriage house, miniature lighthouse, windmill, clock tower museum, trolley station, chapel, blacksmith shop, planetarium, and a small American museum that aims to offer unique insight into the history, culture, and natural heritage of the town of Stratford and the state of Connecticut.
