Overview

Located in the northern region of Crystal Cove State Park between Pelican Point and the park’s historic district at Los Trancos Beach, Pelican Point Beach is surrounded by blufftop trails and scenic views. Other amenities include tide pools, a campground, paved bike paths, as well as restrooms and showers at the trailheads. To find the beach, you can drive into the park entrance that is titled "Pelican Point Area", which is where Newport Coast Drive intersects with Pacific Coast Highway. Free parking is located on the beachside of Pacific Coast Highway.

Activities

For nature lovers, there is a paved bike path and various hiking trails that trickle down the bluff from the park entrance to Pelican Point Beach. Along the way, there are also a variety of viewpoints, most notably near the Pelican Resort Golf Course, that overlook Newport Coast’s beautiful and rocky coastline where whales often frequent. We highly recommend bringing a pair of binoculars, so you have the best possible view of these amazing creatures. If you are keen on observing more marine life, there are also tide pools where you can snorkel and scuba dive.

If you are looking for a warm and casual setting, you can also drive 5 minutes to the Coliseum Pool and Grill, which serves exceptional fish tacos, tempura, and club sandwiches. It also includes a heated terrace that overlooks the Coliseum Pool, golf courses, and the ocean. If you are looking for a quick bite with a priceless view, you can also drive 4 minutes to Crystal Cove Shake Shack, a fast-food restaurant locally acclaimed for its amazing milkshakes, of which they offer 20 different flavors.

If you are looking for a hotel near Pelican Point, you can take a short 5-minute drive to Crystal Cove Beach Cottages, a 4-Star specialty lodging service with an oceanfront location and vintage, clean décor. You can also make yourself at home at the 4-Star Mediterranean-style resort of Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas, which is only a 2-minute drive from the beach and has outstanding facilities, including tennis and basketball courts, a putting green, three outdoor pools, and a modern fitness center.
