Overview
Located in the city of Morro Bay, Tidelands Park is a two-acre popular recreational public park with an unnamed narrow muddy beach that has rocky parts. This beach is also known as Tidelands Park Beach. Tidelands Park does not have lifeguards. However, the park has many amenities including restrooms with showers, a children’s playground, a pier, picnic tables, barbeque spots, fish cleaning station, benches, and a boat launch facility. Dogs on leash are allowed in Tidelands Park and its beach.
Activities
Tidelands Park offers many fun activities including beachcombing, wildlife watching, picnicking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, boating, and jet-skiing. The generally calm waters of the Morro Bay around Tidelands Park make it ideal for beginner swimmers, kayakers, canoers, and stand-up paddleboarders. If you like birdwatching, you can see many kinds of seabirds and shorebirds in the water near this beach. In addition, you can also see many marine organisms in the water around the pier in Tidelands Park including chiton, limpets, and anemones. Depending on the time of the year, you can catch many kinds of fish in the water near Tidelands Park including surfperch, lingcod, salmon, and halibut. However, if you are planning to fish in the water near Tidelands Park, please make sure that you follow the local fishing regulations. The beach and Tidelands Park also offer amazing Instagram-worthy views of Morro Bay and the Morro Rock.Tidelands Park is popular among families as it has a children’s playground with exciting swings - local children have nicknamed Tidelands Park as "Pirate Park" as it has nautical themed swings including a pirate ship, a whale’s tail, a crow’s nest, and seal statues. In addition, the kid’s playground also has a sandy play area. Tidelands Park also hosts the Family Fun 4th of July Celebration which sees musical performances, fun games, and bike and paddle parades being organized in and around Tidelands Park. In addition, plenty of excellent food options are also available in the park during the festivities.
Parking
Getting to Tidelands Park is easy - the park is located near 332 Embarcadero Road, and a free parking lot is also available nearby. However, please note that a tall rock wall near the edge of Tidelands Park might make access to the beach difficult. In addition, we recommend visiting this beach during low tide as during high tide the beach can be completely submerged and inaccessible.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Tidelands Park. The Morro Bay State Park Museum of Natural History offers interesting exhibits on the local biodiversity, geology, and cultural history. Art Center Morro Bay displays interesting artworks. In addition, the center also hosts artistic demonstrations by regional artists and organizes art classes for children and adults. If you are looking for another attraction near Tidelands Park, Morro Bay Maritime Museum has interesting exhibits on local maritime history and maritime science and technology.
